Anyone with a Disneyland trip coming up in the next few weeks should probably read through this before packing their bags.
Between now and early September, Disneyland Resort has a genuinely long list of attractions running on reduced hours or shutting down entirely, and a few of these overlap in ways that could reshape an already tight touring plan. Some of it is completely routine, the kind of seasonal shuffle that happens most years around this time. Other closures don't have a return date attached yet, which makes them a bit harder to plan around. Here's the full picture of what's changing across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, and what it might mean for your visit.
Two Rides Are Weekend Only for the Next Couple of Weeks
First, the good news: this one is temporary and predictable. The Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes are both currently running on limited hours at Disneyland Park, which is common during quieter stretches of the year and not something to be alarmed about.
Sailing Ship Columbia is currently open Saturdays and Sundays only, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and it goes back to daily operations starting August 15. Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes runs a slightly wider window, Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and resumes daily hours one day earlier on August 14. Keep in mind both of these are still weather dependent no matter what the posted schedule says, so conditions on the day of your visit can still change things.
Anyone hoping to ride the Columbia or paddle a canoe should try to build a weekend into their trip before mid-August, or simply adjust expectations if a weekday visit is the only option.
The Classic Haunted Mansion Has an Expiration Date
Now for the change that's generating the most conversation. Haunted Mansion is set to close on August 8, 2026, and stay unavailable through August 20. Friday, August 7, will be the last chance to experience the ride's traditional version before that happens.
There's a good reason behind the timing. Disneyland needs this window to install Haunted Mansion Holiday, its yearly seasonal overlay based on The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Once the transformation is finished, Haunted Mansion Holiday reopens August 21, lining up with the start of Disneyland Resort's Halloween Time celebrations.
This closure isn't a surprise since it happens every year, but it's still one more thing to build a trip around, particularly for guests who specifically want to experience the year round version of the ride rather than the holiday overlay.
No Word Yet on When Frontierland Shootin' Exposition Comes Back
Not everything on this list has a clean end date. Frontierland Shootin' Exposition has been shut down since July 6, 2026, and Disneyland currently lists it as closed with the reopening date marked as to be determined.
This is a beloved, offbeat corner of Frontierland where guests aim at interactive targets in an Old West style shooting gallery instead of riding through a scene. Its open ended closure has made it stand out more than some of the shorter shutdowns on this list. Until Disney provides an update, it's smart to assume this one won't be part of an upcoming trip.
Main Street Cinema Follows Two Days Behind Haunted Mansion
Right on the heels of Haunted Mansion's closure, Main Street Cinema is scheduled to shut down starting August 10, with plans to reopen August 27. That means for a stretch in the middle of August, both Haunted Mansion and Main Street Cinema will be closed at the same time.
Compared to some of the other closures here, this one is fairly short. Even so, guests visiting Disneyland Park in the middle of the month should expect to run into more than one unavailable experience during that same trip.
Disney California Adventure Isn't Skipping This Either
The list of closures stretches across the esplanade too. Silly Symphony Swings has been closed since April 27, 2026, with no reopening date announced yet, which makes it one of the longest running closures at Disneyland Resort right now.
Chiller at Paradise Gardens Park more recently joined that list, closing starting July 26 with its own reopening date still unconfirmed. Guests spending a day at Disney California Adventure should be prepared for the possibility of encountering both of these closures depending on their travel dates.
Construction Is Also Reshaping How Guests Move Through the Park
There's another change at Disney California Adventure that doesn't involve a ride at all. The walkway connecting Avengers Campus and Cars Land is currently closed as construction continues on the broader Avengers Campus expansion.
This doesn't block access to either area, but guests will need to use an alternate route, including the Performance Corridor, to get between them. It's a subtle change, but it can slow down a touring plan for anyone used to cutting quickly between Cars Land and Avengers Campus, particularly during the busiest parts of the day.
Tinker Bell and Pixie Hollow Add to the Growing List
There have also been recent changes involving Tinker Bell and Pixie Hollow at Disneyland Park. Pixie Hollow is staying open overall, but it's now closing on Tuesdays and Thursdays through September 5, 2026. That schedule change follows a separate announcement about a Tinker Bell removal that started the week before, adding yet another item to an already crowded list of adjustments this summer.
Mapping Out a Trip Around All of This
Looked at together, Disneyland Resort is entering August with an unusually crowded list of closures and schedule changes. Pixie Hollow's reduced days begin within days, Frontierland Shootin' Exposition has been down since early July with no return date, Silly Symphony Swings has been closed since late April, and Chiller joined the mix in late July. Then Haunted Mansion goes dark August 8, followed almost immediately by Main Street Cinema on August 10, meaning both will be closed together for part of the month.
If there's a silver lining, it's that Haunted Mansion at least has a confirmed comeback. Guests can catch the traditional ride through August 7, and it returns August 21 as Haunted Mansion Holiday, timed perfectly with the start of Halloween Time festivities.
For anyone visiting Disneyland Resort between now and Labor Day, it's worth pulling up Disneyland's official attraction status page shortly before your trip rather than trusting information that might already be a few weeks old. These schedules shift regularly, and a quick check the morning of your visit can keep you from building a plan around something that turns out to be unavailable.
