Disney's Animal Kingdom continues to evolve in more ways than just new attractions and construction projects. While much of the attention has centered on the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A., another important change has quietly arrived that could improve the experience for thousands of guests every day.
Disney has officially expanded the park's transportation hub, opening new bus stops that change how guests travel between Animal Kingdom and several popular destinations across Walt Disney World.
It's not the kind of update that comes with fireworks or fanfare, but for guests relying on Disney's complimentary transportation system, it could make the beginning and end of a park day noticeably smoother.
Disney Expands the Animal Kingdom Bus Depot
Construction on the project began in late 2025, and the expansion is now complete.
The newly opened section adds four bus stops to the existing transportation area outside the park. These new stops serve transfers to Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Disney's Art of Animation Resort and Disney's Pop Century Resort.
By creating additional loading areas, Disney has expanded the capacity of one of Animal Kingdom's busiest operational spaces.
Designed for Comfort
Beyond adding more boarding locations, Disney also included several guest-focused improvements throughout the new section.
The expansion features themed signage, overhead fans, organized queue railings, fresh pavement, and additional lighting. While those additions may seem simple, they can make a meaningful difference during Central Florida's hot afternoons or after evening rain showers.
Animal Kingdom often sees large crowds heading for transportation shortly after the park closes, making the bus depot one of the busiest locations outside the entrance gates. A larger waiting area could help improve guest flow during those peak periods.
A Growing Park Needs Growing Infrastructure
The timing of the transportation project isn't surprising.
Animal Kingdom is in the middle of one of the largest transformations since it opened in 1998. Disney is replacing DinoLand U.S.A. with the upcoming Tropical Americas land, Pueblo Esperanza, which will eventually introduce new experiences inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones.
The park has also welcomed newer offerings like Bluey's Wild World, with additional expansion still on the horizon.
As attendance grows and more attractions arrive, transportation infrastructure becomes just as important as what's happening inside the park.
An Upgrade Guests Will Appreciate
Transportation improvements rarely generate the excitement of a new ride announcement, but they often have a greater impact on the average vacation day.
Most guests begin and end their visit using Disney transportation, and even small improvements to crowd flow can reduce congestion and make departures feel less stressful.
The expanded bus depot won't completely eliminate waits during busy periods, but it represents another investment in the overall guest experience as Disney prepares Animal Kingdom for its next chapter.
