Universal Studios Hollywood isn't done building its Halloween Horror Nights 2026 lineup.
With the event approaching, Universal has revealed that Obsession (2026) will be part of this year's festivities. The announcement stands out because the creative team decided to add the property at an unusually late stage in the planning process.
And unlike a traditional haunted house announcement, this one comes with plenty of mystery. Guests know Obsession (2026) is coming, but exactly where they'll encounter it won't be quite as obvious.
Halloween Horror Nights Can Put Scares Anywhere
Halloween Horror Nights allows Universal to transform its parks after dark.
Haunted houses are a major part of the event, allowing guests to walk directly into environments inspired by recognizable horror franchises and Universal's original concepts. But the scares don't stop once guests leave those houses.
Scare zones, live entertainment, characters, and roaming scare actors can make the streets part of the experience, too.
That means Universal doesn't have to build an entire haunted house around every property it wants represented.
For its surprise addition, Obsession (2026), the streets themselves could become particularly important.
Universal Made a Late Call on Obsession
Halloween Horror Nights creative director John Murdy announced the Obsession (2026) addition during Midsummer Scream.
Murdy explained that Universal decided to incorporate the movie surprisingly late in the process. The team had to “rally the troops” to get everything together for Halloween Horror Nights 2026.
That's notable considering how much work goes into preparing the event. Universal has to coordinate planning, construction, rehearsals, and plenty of other details before Halloween Horror Nights opens.
Obsession (2026) is also relatively fresh for many moviegoers.
The horror film first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. It later received its wide release in May 2026.
Only a few months later, the property is making the jump to Universal Studios Hollywood.
Don't Expect a Traditional Obsession House
Guests shouldn't expect to walk toward a giant Obsession (2026) sign and enter a fully dedicated haunted house for the movie.
Instead, Nikki is set to appear as a roaming scare actor.
Murdy offered an interesting description of what Universal has planned.
“Nikki’s out there somewhere,” Murdy said. “You kind of have to get into a ‘Where’s Waldo?’ mentality.”
He also teased that Nikki might be searching for her “next obsession.”
That could make finding her part of the experience.
Rather than waiting in line and knowing exactly when the Obsession (2026) encounter begins, guests could encounter Nikki while exploring the park.
Nikki Could Show Up When Guests Least Expect It
That unpredictability could fit naturally into Halloween Horror Nights.
Guests regularly move between haunted houses, scare zones, food locations, and other experiences throughout the evening. A roaming Nikki creates the possibility that an Obsession (2026) encounter could happen somewhere along the way.
Universal hasn't explained how often she'll appear or whether she'll remain in specific sections of Universal Studios Hollywood.
There's also no confirmation that Florida will receive the same experience.
Murdy works with Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, and the announcement concerns that event. Universal hasn't announced Nikki for Universal Studios Florida, so Orlando guests shouldn't assume she'll appear there.
There's Already Concern About Guest Interactions
The roaming format has also brought up an issue Halloween Horror Nights encountered last year.
Art the Clown previously appeared as a roaming character, giving guests opportunities to encounter him outside a traditional haunted house.
Some people reportedly took those interactions too far. Videos circulated online showing guests bothering and terrorizing the character, raising concerns about how people behave around performers who can move freely through the park.
Nikki could create similar opportunities for close interactions.
Guests might approach her, record the encounter, follow along, or try to provoke a reaction. None of that changes the fact that an actress is working underneath the character.
Let Universal Create the Scare
The late addition of Obsession (2026) gives Universal Studios Hollywood another way to make Halloween Horror Nights feel unpredictable.
Instead of building an entire house around the movie, Universal can make Nikki part of the environment guests are already exploring.
Not knowing exactly where she'll appear could make spotting her even more memorable.
But guests need to respect the person bringing Nikki to life.
Have fun with the encounter. Get scared, play along, and enjoy finding a character you weren't necessarily expecting to see.
Just don't harass, touch, follow, torment, or deliberately make the performer uncomfortable.
Nikki is coming to Halloween Horror Nights to make guests nervous—not the other way around.
