Magic Kingdom guests still don't know exactly what awaits them inside Villains Land, but Disney is beginning to pull back the curtain.
The ambitious expansion has remained one of Walt Disney World's biggest mysteries since Disney announced it at D23 in 2024. Fans received dramatic concept art and some information about the creative direction, but Disney has kept many details about the actual land hidden.
That's made every new piece of information worth watching.
Now, D23 2026 has arrived, and Disney is showing fans something they haven't had before: physical pieces that demonstrate how Imagineers are bringing the sinister environment of Villains Land to life.
Fans Have Been Working With One Major Clue
Disney made a big impression when it first unveiled Villains Land two years ago.
The original concept art showed a dark corner of Magic Kingdom filled with eerie architecture, towering structures, and twisted scenery. Several large buildings appeared throughout the landscape, seemingly leaving room for major attractions based on some of Disney's most recognizable villains.
But Disney didn't explain what those structures represented.
Instead, fans spent the following two years examining that artwork while waiting for the company to reveal more.
Disney eventually discussed the architectural approach Imagineers were developing for the land, providing another idea of how different the area could feel from the rest of Magic Kingdom.
Detailed attraction reveals, however, remained elusive.
D23 is finally providing another piece of the puzzle.
Disney Is Showing Villains Land in Physical Form
Disney has displayed two physical models featuring trees designed for Villains Land at D23 2026.
They don't reveal the full land or expose the attractions hidden within it. Instead, the pieces demonstrate how Imagineers could use the environment to create the area's darker atmosphere.
One model features a tree with long branches that arch overhead, seemingly forming an entryway.
The other tree sculpture has an eerie shape, with long, creepy branches stretching outward.
Both designs fit naturally alongside the twisted landscape Disney previously showed in the Villains Land concept art.
The displays also suggest Imagineers could use landscaping to make the transition into Villains Land immediately noticeable. Rather than depending entirely on attraction facades and buildings, Disney could make the surrounding environment part of the experience.
More information could still arrive during D23's park announcements. For now, these physical pieces provide another glimpse at a project that Disney has largely kept hidden.

Several Major Rumors Remain Unanswered
While Disney has confirmed major attractions, dining, and shopping for Villains Land, the company hasn't completely confirmed exactly what those experiences will be.
One reported attraction could bring The Emperor's New Groove (2000) to Magic Kingdom.
Reports have suggested Disney could develop a family-friendly roller coaster based on the animated film, potentially featuring Yzma and Kronk.
Maleficent could receive another major attraction. Rumors have pointed toward an indoor dark ride or water-based experience featuring the villain from Sleeping Beauty (1959).
Hades could also have a significant presence. Reports suggest the Hercules (1997) villain could host a dinner show, potentially featuring Pain, Panic, and other Disney villains.
A smaller attraction could reportedly revolve around Ursula from The Little Mermaid (1989), using a spinner format similar to Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
Restaurants, shops, character experiences, and other additions could also help complete the land.
Until Disney makes additional announcements, though, those individual attraction concepts remain unofficial.
Disney Has Another Huge Magic Kingdom Project to Show
Villains Land isn't the only major Magic Kingdom expansion getting attention at D23.
Disney has also revealed a massive physical model of Piston Peak National Park, offering a much more complete look at the Cars-inspired expansion coming to Frontierland.
The model shows the land's overall layout and theming while also providing a look at its second attraction.
Piston Peak will transform a large portion of Magic Kingdom following the permanent closures of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat.
Inspired by Cars (2006), the expansion will combine new attractions with rugged wilderness, mountainous scenery, waterways, and trails.
Disney has already begun preparing the area for its transformation. The land is expected to open sometime between late 2027 and 2029.
Magic Kingdom's Future Is Starting to Take Shape
For much of the past two years, fans have had to imagine Villains Land based primarily on artwork and Disney's limited announcements.
D23 is providing something more tangible.
The twisted trees may represent only a small piece of the enormous project, but they offer another indication of how Imagineers plan to make Villains Land feel completely different from the rest of Magic Kingdom.
Combined with the detailed Piston Peak model, Disney is giving fans a clearer picture of the park's future.
And with D23 still underway, there could be much more to come.
