One of Walt Disney World's biggest conveniences is its massive transportation network, but guests have encountered several changes lately.
Buses, boats, and the Disney Skyliner have all been affected in different ways. Some changes are temporary, while another represents a permanent shift in how guests can travel from Disney Springs.
And with additional Skyliner work approaching, the transportation story isn't finished yet.
Resort Hopping From Disney Springs Gets Harder
Since June 28, 2026, Disney has limited who can board resort transportation departing Disney Springs.
Guests using buses or applicable water transportation from Disney Springs toward Disney Resort hotels may need to show proof that they qualify.
A Disney Resort hotel stay counts, as does a valid dining or experience reservation at a resort.
The restriction is especially important for off-site visitors who previously used Disney Springs as a starting point for resort hopping.
Someone hoping to visit a Disney hotel simply to walk around, grab a quick snack without a reservation, or explore the property can no longer count on boarding transportation there.
It's a significant planning change for guests familiar with the old system.
Boats Have Been In and Out of Service
Disney's water transportation network has experienced additional changes throughout the summer.
The FriendShip boat dock serving Disney's Yacht Club Resort and Disney's Beach Club Resort recently underwent maintenance. That work extended through late August, but the dock has since reopened.
Elsewhere, guests haven't been as lucky.
Refurbishment work along the Sassagoula River Cruise route has temporarily interrupted boat transportation to Disney Springs. The route serves resorts including Disney's Port Orleans Resort and Disney's Old Key West Resort.
Disney has provided bus transportation as an alternative, with the boat refurbishment scheduled through late August.
Disney Skyliner Faces More Work
Another major transportation system has also experienced a rough stretch.
A Disney Skyliner loading issue earlier in August created lengthy delays and lines, eventually leading Disney to send buses to assist affected resort guests.
Disney has since filed a construction permit involving the Disney's Hollywood Studios Skyliner station.
The permit doesn't provide enough information to determine whether the project has any connection to the recent operational issue. Still, it arrives as Disney prepares for another confirmed period of Skyliner maintenance.
The entire Disney Skyliner system will close from January 24 through January 30, 2027.
Disney will provide complimentary bus transportation during the weeklong closure.
For guests staying at Disney's Riviera Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort, or Disney's Art of Animation Resort, that shutdown could noticeably change how they reach EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios.
Disney transportation remains a major advantage for guests who don't want to drive around the resort. But between new access rules, boat refurbishments, operational delays, and an approaching Skyliner closure, checking transportation status may now deserve a spot on the vacation checklist.
