Universal Orlando is clearing the way for another project at Universal Studios Florida.
This time, the change comes at the expense of one of the oldest attractions in the entire park.
Animal Actors on Location! will give its final performance on November 2, 2026, before permanently closing. The show has been part of Universal Studios Florida for 36 years, surviving multiple name changes and enormous transformations throughout the park.
Universal has already confirmed that the closure is happening to make way for a future experience.
Exactly what that experience will be remains a mystery.
A Universal Studios Florida Original
Animal Actors isn't simply an older attraction that Universal has decided to retire.
Its history goes back to Universal Studios Florida's opening year.
The attraction debuted as Animal Actors Stage on June 7, 1990. In 2001, it became Animal Planet Live before receiving another name change in 2006, when it became Animal Actors on Location!
That lengthy history makes its upcoming closure more significant.
Only a handful of experiences from Universal Studios Florida's earliest days remain. Animal Actors is currently one of three opening-day attractions still operating, alongside E.T. Adventure and Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show.
Soon, that list will become even shorter.
Universal acknowledged the attraction's history when announcing the closure. Adam Kingsley, Vice President of Park Operations – North Campus, actually began his Universal Orlando career as an attendant at Animal Actors 30 years ago.
That connection gives the closure an added layer of history.
The Timing Makes This Particularly Interesting
Animal Actors has already survived one major redevelopment project around it.
The show was previously part of Woody Woodpecker's KidZone, which underwent a major transformation before DreamWorks Land opened in 2024.
Animal Actors remained.
For a while, that made the attraction something of a survivor. Universal had completely reworked much of the surrounding area without eliminating the longtime animal show.
Two years later, that's changing.
Universal hasn't announced the identity of the replacement, but the location gives the company several options.
An expansion connected to DreamWorks Land could make sense. Universal could also take advantage of the show's proximity to Hollywood or Springfield when deciding what comes next.
None of those possibilities have been confirmed, though.
Universal has only said additional details about the future of the location will arrive later.
Another Transformation Is Coming
Whatever replaces Animal Actors, the announcement gives Universal fans another area of Universal Studios Florida to watch closely.
That's particularly interesting now that Epic Universe has opened.
Universal could have shifted much of its attention toward operating and eventually expanding its newest Orlando park. Instead, changes continue across the resort.
Animal Actors is now another example.
The show may not have the massive profile of Universal's newest roller coasters or highly themed lands, but longevity matters. An attraction doesn't operate for 36 years without becoming familiar to generations of visitors.
Some guests saw Animal Actors during childhood vacations and later returned with their own families. Others simply came to appreciate that the show remained while so much of Universal Studios Florida changed around it.
That era is almost over.
Animal Actors on Location! will perform for the final time on November 2. Afterward, Universal will have an empty theater and a new opportunity to reshape another section of its original Florida theme park.
For now, Universal is keeping its replacement plans secret.
But after 36 years of Animal Actors, something new is officially on the way.
