Bolt, two Dalmatian puppies, and Meeko quietly appeared at Walt Disney Studios Lot at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Nobody announced any of it.
Some context.
Look, the best theming Disney does is the kind you have to find, not the kind that gets pointed out to you on a map.
That is exactly why the Walt Disney Studios Lot at Disney's Hollywood Studios works so well. Since that courtyard opened back in May, Imagineering has been tucking character statues into corners that the vast majority of guests blow right past. A cat is asleep on a roof ledge. A cricket is sitting on a directional sign. A monkey climbing through store signage.
No announcements. No press release. They just turn up.
And they have not stopped turning up.
With The Magic of Disney Animation opening September 14, there are nine days left on the clock. Which raises a fair question about whether Imagineering is done.
The Three New Ones
Bolt is sitting in a patch of grass with two Dalmatian puppies, mid tug-of-war.
One end of a bone in Bolt's mouth. A puppy clamped on the other end. A second puppy parked nearby was watching the whole thing unfold.
Details hold up, too. Bolt has the wide eyes and raised tail that made him such a jittery mess in the film, and the puppies keep the spotted coats and enormous floppy ears from the animated classic.

Imagineers dropped the group onto the grass just to the right of the centerpiece Sorcerer Mickey hat.
Then there is Meeko, standing upright on his own patch of grass. One paw wrapped around a red and white striped popcorn box. The other paw is already in it.
Perfect choice. Meeko's entire personality in Pocahontas is being obsessed with food, and handing him theme park popcorn instead of corn is the joke that makes the statue work in this specific place.
The Rest of the Cast

- Pua and Thumper in the grass near the courtyard entrance
- Jiminy Cricket perched on a directional sign
- Lucifer from Cinderella on a ledge, teeth bared, glaring up at Zazu
- Cinderella's bluebirds near the Studio Theater sign
- Diablo from Sleeping Beauty sitting with the bluebirds
- Mochi from Big Hero 6 curled up asleep on a roof ledge
- Sir Hiss from Robin Hood sharing a railing with Fru Fru from Zootopia
- Jaq, Gus, and Timothy Mouse as a trio, with Timothy holding up a feather quill
- Zazu from The Lion King is watching from up high
- Ray from The Princess and the Frog on a lamppost
- Abu from Aladdin is climbing through a store sign
Here Is What Nobody Is Talking About
Almost none of these placements are random.
Lucifer, glaring up at Zazu, is a cat and a bird from two completely different movies, positioned so the predator thing reads in about half a second. Diablo sitting with Cinderella's bluebirds is the exact same gag.
Sir Hiss and Fru Fru, on one railing, put a 1973 villain right next to a 2016 supporting character. And it works, because both are small, both talk nonstop, and both would unquestionably be gossiping about somebody.
Jaq, Gus, and Timothy Mouse smash Cinderella and Dumbo together into what is basically a mouse convention.
These are not statues. They are jokes. And they only pay off if you slow down.
Why They Are Out There
The entire lineup extends the open-house concept behind The Magic of Disney Animation.
The premise is that Walt Disney Animation Studios' characters have taken over the place while their animators stepped away. This explains why they are on signs, railings, and roof ledges instead of standing on pedestals. They are not exhibits. They wandered off on their own.
Imagineering leaned in harder in late August with an “Open House” banner at the attraction entrance, staged alongside Mickey Mouse, the Mad Hatter, Flounder, Tinker Bell, Moana, Minnie Mouse, and Robin Williams' Lost Boy.
How We Got Here
- July 2025: Disney announces Walt Disney Studios Lot replacing Animation Courtyard
- September 25, 2025: Animation Courtyard closes permanently
- April 2026: Sorcerer Mickey hat goes up over the attraction entrance
- May 20, 2026: Courtyard opens, attraction still walled off
- Late August 2026: Open House banner installed
- September 14, 2026: The Magic of Disney Animation opens
Three and a half months of an open courtyard slowly filling up, while the main event stayed behind construction walls.
So Are More Coming to Disney
Almost certainly.
These have been trickling in rather than landing all at once, with new figures appearing months after the courtyard opened. Nothing indicates that Imagineering considers this finished, and nine days is a lot of runway.
The open house premise also has no ceiling on it. Any Walt Disney Animation Studios character qualifies, and that is a genuinely enormous library to keep raiding.
Going before the 14th? Walk it slow. Went in June? Go walk it again.
