Disneyland Confirms 2026 Refresh for Frontierland Area

Two familiar Frontierland merchandise locations have emerged from behind construction scaffolding at Disneyland Park, part of a wider wave of refurbishment projects sweeping through the classic theme park land this month.

Guests arriving at Disneyland Park in early September found scrim-covered scaffolding positioned on the rooftops of Pioneer Mercantile and Bonanza Outfitters, two adjoining shops in Frontierland. The construction remained limited to the roof area, with store entrances and surrounding guest spaces staying unaffected throughout the project.

Consistent with how Disneyland Resort typically handles smaller maintenance work, the company never formally acknowledged the project. Both shops stayed open and fully operational the entire time, and construction appears to have wrapped up by Wednesday.

On Wednesday, WDWNT reported that Disneyland Resort had removed the scaffolding from both rooftops and shared photos of the refreshed building exteriors on social media.

Guests won't notice any obvious changes to either Pioneer Mercantile or Bonanza Outfitters as a result of the project. The work was likely routine roof maintenance, with Disney choosing to shield the construction from guest view using scrim rather than leaving it exposed.

Part of a Larger Frontierland Refresh

This project joins a growing list of recent refurbishments happening throughout Frontierland at Disneyland Park. Both the Frontierland Shootin' Exposition and the Mark Twain Riverboat recently reopened following their own separate refurbishments, while Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island closed for maintenance just this week. That interactive attraction is currently expected to reopen Thursday, September 17, though Disneyland Resort's website continues advising guests to “check back” for the latest timeline updates.

Construction has also appeared around Rancho Del Zocalo Restaurante, where scrim and construction walls now surround the restaurant's patio and courtyard. Though less visually covered than other ongoing projects, the restaurant remains open throughout, and there's no confirmed timeline for when this particular refurbishment will conclude.
