A piece of Magic Kingdom Park's railroad heritage has disappeared this week, as Walt Disney World Resort quietly swaps out steam train-themed collectible medallions at the Walt Disney World Railroad station on Main Street, U.S.A., for generic character designs.
The Second Change This Week
This update comes just hours after guests noticed the removal of the vintage “Metropolis” penny arcade machine from the same station. WDWNT reported the additional change, which comes alongside a wider effort by Disney to modernize collectible coin machines throughout the Central Florida Disney parks. As part of that push, the Walt Disney World Railroad-themed medallions once sold at the station have been entirely replaced.
Part of a Larger Machine Overhaul
Walt Disney World Resort has spent recent months steadily upgrading pressed-penny and collectible-medallion machines across its theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs, swapping in newer dispensers equipped with digital screens. Typically, these updates have preserved some connection to the machine's specific location, even as they introduce new artwork.
This particular update breaks from that pattern. The medallions previously available at the Walt Disney World Railroad station featured an embossed “Walt Disney World Railroad” insignia, alongside four character designs, each tied to the specific number of an actual steam train running through Magic Kingdom Park: Engineer Mickey Mouse (58444), Goofy (42915), Donald Duck (58445), and Minnie Mouse (60598).
A Generic Redesign Takes Its Place
In place of that railroad theming, the station's machine now offers four gold and silver medallions featuring standard illustrations of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck in their familiar poses and outfits. The reverse side of each medallion now displays an image of Cinderella Castle rather than any railroad branding. As of Monday, the Minnie Mouse design had already sold out.
Walt Disney World Resort has not indicated whether steam train-themed medallions might eventually return to the station on Main Street, U.S.A.
