Disneyland Resort is preparing another major change to the way guests enter its two Anaheim theme parks. Disney’s official construction update says the Disneyland East Esplanade security screening area will temporarily move into the former ticket-booth area once the booths are removed.
The change matters most for guests approaching Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park from the east, including pedestrians using Harbor Boulevard. Disney has not announced exactly when the temporary checkpoint will begin operating or how long it will remain there, leaving an important question hanging over future rope-drop mornings: how smoothly will thousands of arriving guests move through a narrower, changing corridor?
Disneyland Confirms East Esplanade Security Will Move
Disney’s current construction and closures update says work in the eastern Esplanade “may temporarily impact” how guests move through the theme park entrance area. The resort says the east-side ticket booths are being removed and that the East Security screening area will temporarily shift into that location.
Disney also warns that construction walls may require temporary walkway adjustments to and from the main entrances.
Inside the Magic previously reported on the Disneyland ticket booth demolition as crews removed four structures on the east side of the Esplanade. A later aerial view of the entrance construction showed how dramatically that section of the plaza had already changed.
Harbor Boulevard Arrivals Could Face the Biggest Pressure
The east side is particularly important because Harbor Boulevard is a major pedestrian approach to Disneyland Resort. Disney’s own parking guidance identifies a Harbor Boulevard pickup and drop-off area, while its driving guidance notes that guests using the Toy Story Parking Area can travel to the parks by bus or walk via Harbor Boulevard.
That makes the temporary security configuration worth watching closely. Guests walking from nearby hotels naturally feed toward this side of the property, and construction walls plus altered walkways could create pinch points during concentrated morning arrival periods.
That does not mean severe gridlock is guaranteed. Disney has not warned that the temporary checkpoint will reduce screening capacity, published expected wait times, or said guests should anticipate missing rope drop. Until the configuration is operating, claims of major delays would be speculation. The actual morning impact will depend on Disney’s final routing and screening setup.
Still, the physical changes give visitors a practical reason to build additional flexibility into arrival plans, particularly on mornings when being inside the gates before park opening matters.
This Temporary Move Is Part of a Much Bigger Disneyland Project
The demolished booths are tied to a much larger transformation on Disneyland Resort’s eastern edge. In June 2025, Disney announced plans for a new east-side parking structure and transportation hub on part of the former Manchester cast member parking lot.
According to Disney Parks Blog’s official expansion announcement, the project is planned to include approximately 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening, dedicated vehicle access from Disney Way, and a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard. That bridge will lead to what Disney calls an “all-new esplanade arrival experience.”
Inside the Magic has tracked the new Harbor Boulevard gateway as the project moved toward construction and later covered Disneyland Resort breaking ground on the parking expansion. Disney has not announced an opening date for the new parking structure or pedestrian bridge.
The temporary East Security relocation therefore appears against a much longer construction horizon.
Guests Should Watch Their Route Before Rope Drop
For visitors, the immediate issue is less about what the completed gateway will eventually look like and more about navigating the Esplanade while work continues. Disney specifically says construction walls can cause temporary walkway changes, meaning a familiar route on one visit may not function exactly the same way on the next.
Guests approaching from Harbor Boulevard should follow posted signs and Cast Member directions rather than assume the old approach remains unchanged. Those arriving from Disney’s western parking structures have different routes: Disney says tram service from Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals delivers guests to the Main Entrance Esplanade, while a pedestrian bridge over Magic Way also provides a walking option.

Disneyland Has Not Put an End Date on the Temporary Checkpoint
The biggest unknown is duration. Disney describes the East Security shift as temporary but does not provide a start date for the relocated operation, an end date, or a detailed map showing how pedestrian traffic will be routed around the active construction footprint.
That uncertainty is significant because the eastern gateway project is designed to change the resort’s arrival system long term. The eventual transportation hub will include its own security screening and connect across Harbor Boulevard, potentially changing how multiple streams of guests reach the Esplanade.
For now, visitors should treat the east entrance as an evolving construction area rather than a fixed routine. Disney’s official construction page remains the strongest source for operational updates, and the next meaningful detail will be whether Disneyland publishes a more precise timeline or guest-routing plan before the temporary East Security checkpoint takes effect.
