Disney World and Disneyland Announce Overnight Transformation in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Jedi hopefuls heading to Batuu have something new to build. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort just rolled out a fresh lightsaber design and a set of enhancements to the weapons sold at Savi's Workshop, effective immediately at both Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Disney Parks Blog revealed the update on October 5, spotlighting a refreshed version of the “Protection and Defense” hilt theme. Guests who build this version end up with a customized lightsaber that pairs bright white finishes with rich gold detailing.

The design draws on the optimism and grandeur of the High Republic era, with mysterious ancient Jedi iconography honoring those who devoted themselves to protecting others. According to the announcement, the theme “reflects a time when the Order stood as a symbol of peace and hope across the galaxy.”

It's only the second hilt theme to receive a third-generation upgrade. The “Power and Control” theme was the first to get its own refresh in May 2026.

Upgrades Reach Every Lightsaber

The improvements aren't limited to the new hilt. Disney says the chassis and blade of every lightsaber, no matter which hilt theme a guest chooses, now include new features: a thermal cutting effect, deflection effects, a spinning effect, better audio quality, and smoother blade activation.

Guests can also pair their creations with special “cracked” Kyber crystals to unlock a color-change effect. With “a quick flick of the wrist, showcasing the inner battle between the light side and the dark side of the Force,” the blade shifts from blue to red.

Per Disney Parks Blog, the upgraded lightsabers are already on sale on Planet Batuu at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Savi's Workshop is a popular experience, so advance reservations are strongly recommended. Guests must purchase a lightsaber to participate.
