Disney shut down the boat between Old Key West and Disney Springs.
Closed through November 1. Dock is closed, boats are not running, and there is a sign out there telling people to go catch a bus.
Some context.
It is the Sassagoula River Cruise, by the way. Not a Mississippi River cruise. Sassagoula is the name Disney made up for this waterway to support the Louisiana theming over at Port Orleans Resorts, and it is what is actually printed on the signs and the calendar. If you are searching for information, that is your term.
Buses are being provided. So you will get there. Just differently.
Here Is Why People Are Annoyed
Old Key West is a Disney Vacation Club resort. One of the original ones, with an extremely loyal owner base.
And DVC guests cannot just shrug and rebook.
They used points. They booked a specific resort, often way in advance, frequently in a unit size that is not easy to swap out. So when transportation at your home resort disappears, you do not go find a resort with a working boat.
You just eat it.
This closure landed on the guests with the fewest options available to them.
And the Boat Was Not a Scenic Bonus
This is the part that matters operationally.
Old Key West is enormous. Spread way out, multiple internal bus stops, nothing like a compact resort where everybody piles on at one spot.
Boat running? You walk down to the dock and go straight to Disney Springs. One leg, no stops.
Boat not running? You get on a bus that might work its way through the resort's own stops before it ever leaves the property.
That is why the boat was frequently the faster option, not just the nicer one. You were skipping the pickup geography.
Losing that costs real time, and a closure notice does not communicate any of it.
The Walking Path. Let Us Talk About It.
Yes, there is a path from Old Key West to Disney Springs.
It takes roughly 45 minutes.
There is no shade. None. The entire way.
This is Central Florida in October. So you are doing 45 minutes in direct sun, and then presumably doing it again on the way back while carrying whatever you just bought at Disney Springs.
Not happening for families with little kids. Not happening for anybody with mobility considerations. Honestly not happening for most adults who have already walked a park that day.
The sign at the dock has it right. Take the bus.
How to Work Around It
Leave earlier than you think you need to, especially at night when Disney Springs clears out, and everybody wants a bus at once.
Pad your dining reservations. The boat ran on a schedule you could basically count on. A bus doing an internal loop does not.
Rideshare one leg if you are in trouble. It is a short drive, and it is cheaper than losing a reservation you booked sixty days out.
And do not build a plan around that walking path. It exists. It is not an answer.
When Does It Come Back
November 1, per the calendar.
Which puts it back right as the holidays start. Jingle Cruise returns November 3. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party kicks off November 8. Disney Springs gets progressively slammed through the month.
So the boat should be running before the busiest Disney Springs stretch of the entire year. Probably not an accident.
Calendar dates move, though. Check My Disney Experience before you count on it.
Look at the Pile-Up Though
One boat down for two and a half weeks is nothing on its own.
The volume is the story.
Walt Disney World Railroad, in refurbishment. This boat, down. Tiana's Bayou Adventure, closing November 2. Seven construction permits filed for Disney Springs in a single week. Skyliner, already scheduled to go down for a week in January 2027.
Every single one of those is normal upkeep for a resort with a staggering amount of infrastructure.
All of them together mean somebody showing up in the next few weeks has a genuine shot at finding that whatever they planned around is not running, and basically no way to know in advance unless they follow this stuff obsessively.
Check the app the morning of. That is the only version of this you can actually trust.
