Reopening Date Surfaces for Magic Kingdom Princess Attraction Before Refurbishment

Bad news first. If you want to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in November, you get exactly one day to do it. The Magic Kingdom ride closes November 2 for its first-ever refurbishment, which makes November 1 your last shot for a while.

Now the good news. Disney already posted operating hours for the ride’s return, and it’s coming back on Friday, December 18. That’s right before the Christmas crowds pour into Walt Disney World, so holiday visitors aren’t totally out of luck.

The Return Date Is Already on Disney’s Website

The Tiana’s Bayou Adventure page on the Walt Disney World website now shows the ride open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on December 18. There are no hours listed for December 17, which lines up with Disney’s refurbishment calendar.

When Disney posts actual operating hours, that’s usually a pretty good sign the date is going to stick. It’s a lot more reassuring than a vague “reopening in December” note.

Speaking of which, the banner at the bottom of the page still just says December 2026 with no specific date. So the website hasn’t fully caught up with itself yet, which is very on brand for Disney. Still, the posted hours are the more specific clue, and the ride is expected to reopen on December 18 or maybe even sooner.

Reopening Day Is a Party Night

Here’s a fun detail. After the 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daytime hours, the page lists a special ticketed event from 6:30 PM to 12:00 AM. That’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and December 18 is one of 13 December party dates this year.

The ride will be open during the party, so party guests might get one of the first trips through the freshly refurbished bayou. Party ticket holders can also enter Magic Kingdom as early as 4:00 PM, giving them a chance to ride before 6:00 PM. Regular day guests have until 6:00 PM to squeeze in a ride on reopening day.

This Ride Really Needs the Break

Let’s be real. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has had its moments since it opened on June 28, 2024, replacing Splash Mountain in Frontierland. The Audio-Animatronics and effects have struggled at times, and if you’ve ridden it more than once, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed something not working quite right.

For a ride this new and this popular, that’s frustrating. People wait a long time for this attraction, and they expect the whole show.

This is the first extended closure since the ride opened, and the refurbishment lasts about six and a half weeks. That gives crews some real time to refresh things before the busiest stretch of the holiday season. Honestly, the timing makes sense. Better to fix it now than have it break down during Christmas week.

The Gift Shop Is Closing Too

Tiana’s Bayou General, the gift shop you walk through when you exit the ride, will close along with the attraction. If you’re still looking to shop in the area, Critter Co-Op will stay open during the refurbishment.

How We Got Here

This has been building for a while. Walt Disney World’s calendar first showed the ride closing for its first-ever refurbishment on November 2, with a December reopening expected. Then the refurbishment calendar listed a specific December 18 return. Now the website has actual operating hours for that day, with nothing posted for December 17. Everything keeps pointing to the same date.

What This Means for Your Trip

If you’re at Magic Kingdom before November 2, ride it. Seriously, don’t push it to the end of your day and hope for the best, because you won’t get another chance until mid-December.

If your trip lands between November 2 and December 17, you’ll have to skip it and plan your Frontierland time around the closure.

And if you’re heading down for Christmas week, you should be good to go. With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure back on December 18, you can still plan on a trip through the bayou, hopefully with everything working this time.
