Disneyland Announces Closure of ‘Indiana Jones’ Ride, Effective January 4

One of Disneyland Park (Paris)'s signature thrill rides is headed for its biggest overhaul yet. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril will close on January 4, 2027, for the most extensive refurbishment since the Adventureland attraction opened in 1993, and Disneyland Paris Resort hasn't said when it will return.

Disneyland Paris Resort announced the restoration project on October 26. Guests will have one more chance to ride on January 3, 2027.

The European Disney vacation destination says teams from Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, Design & Delivery, and Maintenance will “pool their expertise to carry out a thorough renovation of this legendary Adventureland attraction and ensure the quality of this year-round experience.”

To protect the atmosphere that has greeted theme park guests for more than three decades, Disney cast members will focus on the ancient ruins and stone scenery. Sections of the stones forming the temple will be completely rebuilt.

The work extends to the ride's infrastructure. Disneyland Paris Resort plans thorough maintenance of the track's support structures, particularly the rails and footbridges, including new guardrails and the replacement of wooden and metal cladding. Decorative elements around the attraction will be carefully removed and sent to the Central Workshops, where they will be restored to “their original splendour.”

Changes to the Queue and Surroundings

The refurbishment also covers the queue and the area around the coaster. Disney cast members will fully rebuild the wooden walkways in the queue and restore the staircase decorations, the campsite scenery, and the famous 4×4 vehicle.

Lighting will also see an upgrade. The attraction‘s scenic lighting will be improved, and the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost shop and the surrounding area will receive new spotlights and updated lighting effects.

The Goal

Disneyland Paris Resort says the shared aim is to “preserve this emblematic adventure and improve comfort” for both cast members and guests. No reopening date has been announced, so travelers planning a visit after early January should expect the Adventureland ride to be unavailable.
