Anyone heading to Universal Epic Universe early next week may need to rethink their route through the Isle of Berk. Universal Orlando Resort has listed Fyre Drill as closed on November 9 and 10, according to the park hours page on its official website.

The resort has not given a reason for the closure. It is unclear whether the attraction is due for routine maintenance, a refurbishment, or something else, and Universal has not said whether the dates could change.
For those who haven’t visited yet, Fyre Drill is the water-based boat ride in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. Riders work together aboard a boat, aiming water cannons at fires around the Viking village. Getting soaked comes with the territory, which has made it a popular stop on hot Florida afternoons.
It sits alongside Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, the family coaster that has become one of the land’s most talked-about rides. The notice applies only to Fyre Drill, so Hiccup’s Wing Gliders and the rest of Berk’s experiences should run as normal on both days.
This isn’t the only downtime on Fyre Drill’s calendar. The ride is already scheduled to close from January 25 through February 4, 2027.

Epic Universe opened in May 2025 as the fourth park at Universal Orlando Resort, joining Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Universal Volcano Bay. Most of its worlds are built around well-known franchises: SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Dark Universe, and Isle of Berk. All of them branch off Celestial Park, the central hub.
More is on the way. Universal has confirmed a new indoor coaster for Dark Universe, the land themed to the studio’s classic monsters. It will be located near Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment.
“Universal Epic Universe is preparing for its next thrilling addition: an all-new indoor coaster coming to Dark Universe – immersing guests in an all-new story inspired by the Universal Monsters franchise,” the Universal Orlando Resort X account posted. “Construction is underway, with an opening planned in the years ahead.”
The theme, ride system, and opening date have not been announced. As for Monsters Unchained, that attraction will have a closure next month, affecting guests visiting this December.

The announcements come as Comcast reports weaker results for its parks division. On the company’s latest earnings call, CFO Jason Armstrong said theme park demand softened over the summer. Universal’s parks brought in $2.6 billion in Q3 2026, a 4.4% decline from the same quarter a year earlier.
Co-CEO Mike Cavanagh said competitors, including Disney, “were quicker to anticipate and recognize softness in demand” and adjusted accordingly. He also pointed to “capacity challenges” at Epic Universe.
Those comments suggest Universal may invest further in easing crowding inside the park. For now, guests visiting on November 9 or 10 should leave Fyre Drill off their plans.
