Disneyland Resort fans are buzzing with excitement as Disney California Adventure Park prepares for a significant transformation. More than three years after Avengers Campus officially opened on June 4, 2021, Disney has quietly started construction to double the size of the popular Marvel-themed land. The expansion began with the closure of the Timon parking lot on Sunday, January 12.
Avengers Campus replaced A Bug’s Land in 2021, bringing a host of Marvel-themed experiences to Disney California Adventure Park. The land currently includes two attractions—WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!—alongside entertainment offerings, dining locations, and gift shops. Now, Disneyland Resort is expanding its Avengers Campus with two new attractions and additional experiences.
A Marvelous Expansion
Disneyland Resort has announced that the expansion will include the highly anticipated Avengers Infinity Defense attraction and Stark Flight Lab. According to Disney, Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests on a journey through the Marvel Multiverse aboard a world-jumping spaceship. The attraction promises to combine large-scale props and immersive digital effects to transport riders into their favorite superhero adventures.
Meanwhile, Stark Flight Lab will allow guests to experience flying like Iron Man through a state-of-the-art flight simulator. The ride uses an auto factory-style robotic arm to create the sensation of soaring through the skies.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be thrilled to learn that Robert Downey Jr. has reprised his iconic role as Tony Stark for both new attractions. At D23 Expo 2024, Disney shared a sneak peek of Downey Jr. testing the Stark Flight Lab ride alongside Disney CEO Bob Iger:
A Farewell to the Red Car Trolley
To make room for the expansion, Disneyland Resort must close backstage Red Car Trolley Barn, which houses Disney California Adventure Park’s beloved trolley service. The Red Car Trolley will officially end operations on February 8. Although the service will no longer run, one trolley will remain as a photo opportunity on Buena Vista Street.
Behind the Scenes of the Avengers Campus Construction
Disneyland Resort recently submitted permits to the city of Anaheim, outlining plans for utility services, temporary trailers, and parking lot adjustments. Public records show the expansion will impact the Timon parking lot and other backstage areas. Disney has not announced an opening date for the new Avengers Campus attractions.
