If you have ever tried to plan a Disneyland trip with kids and found yourself building your entire morning around an 11:00 a.m. deadline, today is a great day to be a Disney fan.
Disneyland Resort officially removed its long-standing park-hopping time restriction today, June 9, 2026, and it is exactly the kind of change families have been waiting years to see. Starting right now, anyone with a Park Hopper ticket or a Magic Key Annual Pass can move freely between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure from the minute the parks open. No more watching the clock. No more being stuck on the wrong side of the esplanade when your kids are begging to ride something at the other park.
Why This Disneyland Rule Existed in the First Place
When Disneyland reopened back in April 2021 after being closed for over a year, the park brought back a lot of things, but not everything at once. Park hopping eventually returned, but with serious limitations. At first, guests could not hop at all until 1:00 p.m. That window moved to 11:00 a.m. in early 2023. Disney World had already gotten rid of its version of this rule back in January 2024, so Disneyland families have been waiting on this moment for a while. Today it finally arrived.
What This Means for Families With Young Kids
For families, the practical difference this makes is huge. Anyone who has visited Disneyland with young children knows that mornings are often the best part of the day. Kids are energized, lines are shorter, and you can actually move through the park efficiently before the afternoon crowds hit. Under the old rules, you had to pick one park and stay there through the entire morning rush. Now you can genuinely split your day however makes the most sense for your family.
Want to hit Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure right when the park opens while your little one is still excited and awake? Go for it, then hop over to Fantasyland at Disneyland Park before lunchtime. Trying to catch both the Incredicoaster and Space Mountain in the same morning without long waits? That is now actually a realistic plan instead of a wishful one.
The Starting Park Requirement: What Families Need to Know
There are a couple of things worth knowing before your next visit. You still need to pick a starting park when you book, just like before. But here is the part that might surprise you: you do not actually have to go to that park first anymore. If you reserved Disney California Adventure as your starting park, but you want to spend your morning at Disneyland, you can walk straight through those gates and start there. The starting park selection is essentially a formality now, there mainly so Disney can manage operations behind the scenes.
Busy Days Can Still Limit Your Hop
The other thing to keep in mind is that very busy days can still limit hopping. If the park you want to visit reaches capacity, you might have to wait before you can get in, even with a Park Hopper ticket. That is the same capacity rule that has always applied, so it is not new; it is just worth remembering during peak holiday periods and spring break weeks.
Park Reservations Are Still Required at Disneyland
One thing that is not changing is the need to make a park reservation. Disney has made clear that the reservation system is here to stay as a permanent tool for managing crowds. So you will still need to plan ahead and book your visit. What you will not have to plan around anymore is that rigid morning time restriction that complicated so many family itineraries over the past several years.
The best part of all of this is how close the two parks actually are. Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure are literally right across a plaza from each other. You can walk between them in a few minutes. That has always made Disneyland Resort uniquely perfect for park hopping, and now there is finally no rule standing in the way of taking full advantage of it. For families trying to make the most of every minute on a Disneyland vacation, today's change is a genuine win.
