CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Chapek, has been selected as one of the commencement speakers during this year’s ceremonies at Indiana University. Chapek’s commencement speech is set to take place this Saturday, May 7, 2022, during Indiana University-Bloomington’s undergraduate ceremonies.

Bob Chapek himself is an Indiana University alumnus, where he attended IU Bloomington for his undergraduate studies toward a degree in microbiology. Chapek later went on to receive his MBA from Michigan State University. At the undergraduate commencement on May 7, Chapek will also be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.
The Indiana University press release that outlines commencement speakers at this year’s ceremonies shares Chapek’s role at the Walt Disney Company since he assumed the position of CEO at the beginning of 2020, with notes that he managed the company through the continued COVID-19 pandemic, and has continued to expand Disney’s multiple streaming services (including Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu, and Hotstar, while rolling out new technologies for Guests visiting Disney theme parks.

Chapek is only the most recent Disney executive to be featured by a major university as a commencement speaker. Last year, then Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger was invited to speak at commencement ceremonies at the University of Texas at Austin. Former Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner had also been invited to multiple ceremonies as a commencement speaker, including at University of Southern California in 2000, and at his alma mater, Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1989.

Commencement will be streamed for those not in attendance at the ceremonies, with complete details available ahead of this Saturday’s events on Indiana University’s website. IU Bloomington’s commencement will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 7.
