Disney Reveals Considerable Expansion Plan For Epcot

In 2013, Disney’s Frozen captured the hearts and minds of fans worldwide! New plans were just filed by Disney requesting a permit with the South Florida Water Management District and the Reedy Creek Improvement District. With this action, word is out about a much bigger Frozen expansion in Epcot’s Norway than was previously disclosed.

First announced in September of 2014, Disney-goers were notified of Disney’s plans to re-task the space taken by Maelstrom developing a Frozen-themed ride. Other than this, few details were known. Now we know that in addition to the space in Maelstrom, a large themed building will be constructed between the Norway and Mexico pavilions to house additional “Frozen” entertainment.

Below are some details from the filing:

  • New Frozen-themed Ride
  • New Frozen character meet-and-greet space
  • Construction of a 13,000 +/- sf building that will house a Disney guest attraction and a women’s restroom;
  • Construction of a 13,000 +/- sf building that will house a Disney guest attraction and a women’s restroom;
  • Construction of a 2,000 sf modular type building to replace a similar building demolished for the project;
  • construction of two small parking lots that have a total of 18 parking spaces;
  • Relocation of piping and mechanical equipment associated with a beverage dispensing kiosk; modification and addition of sidewalks and planters;
  • New underground utilities;
  • Modification to the existing restroom in the Norway attraction building.”

Sometime in 2016, the new Frozen attraction will open. It will be located between the Norway and Mexico attractions inside Epcot.
