California and Nevada continue to be ravaged by the rapid spread of wildfires following a heatwave that saw multiple days of triple-digit temperatures and exceptionally dry conditions.

The wildfires, which began Thursday night near Los Angeles, have forced an estimated 6,000 people to evacuate. California’s Airport fire continues to move quickly, first breaking out in Trabuco Canyon near Rancho Santa Margarita on September 9.

The Airport fire is the closest fire to Disneyland, with guests starting to question what may be next for the iconic Anaheim theme park resort.

Reddit user CamelF0o shared a stunning photo of the Disneyland Resort eclipsed by California’s Airport fire. The picture was taken from the 11th floor of the Disneyland Hotel, pointing toward Disney California Adventure, one of two of the parks featured at Disneyland.

Disney California Adventure is already a visually striking park, especially at night, with multiple neon signs and an illuminated canyon wall that creates an unforgettable sight for guests.

The California wildfires set a grim tone for what would otherwise make for an incredible nighttime portrait of one of Disney’s many theme parks.

“This is our current view,” said the guest. “It’s so crazy how close these fires are.”

The Airport fire is roughly 25 miles southeast of the Disneyland Resort and is hardly the first fire to be spotted near or around “The Happiest Place on Earth.” While the blaze may still be miles away, Disneyland guests will likely face poor air quality as a result of the Airport fire and surrounding wildfires.

According to The Orange County Register, heavy equipment from an Orange County public work crew unintentionally set the blaze. The crew was placing boulders meant to replace barriers restricting access to vegetation.

The fire was first reported around 1:30 p.m. in the 32200 block of Trabuco Creek Road.

“The cause of the fire was a spark from heavy equipment,” Orange County Fire Authority Deputy Chief TJ McGovern said on Monday. “After placing a load of boulders, the operators began seeing smoke coming from the area of the loader’s basket.”

About Luke Dammann

When at Disney world, Luke will probably be found eating with his favorite animatronic, Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. When not at Disney World, Luke will probably be found defending Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe to people who claim "there are better restaurants"
