More About The Former Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy
Lightning McQueen Racing Academy was an interactive show attraction located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort. The immersive experience placed guests right in the middle of the Cars universe, where they joined Lightning McQueen and his friends for a fun-filled presentation.
The academy was located in a theater at the end of Sunset Boulevard, near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. The attraction featured a state-of-the-art animatronic, Lightning McQueen, who shared his racing knowledge and experiences through an engaging, high-tech simulation.
The show included appearances by other beloved characters from the Cars franchise, like Mater and Cruz Ramirez, and utilized a massive wraparound screen that brought the racing action to life. Designed for audiences of all ages, Lightning McQueen Racing Academy offered fans a chance to learn from the legendary racer himself in a unique and entertaining format.
The attraction closed on October 7, 2024, to make way for Disney Villains! Disney confirmed that a brand-new villain-themed stage show is set to take over the space. The villainous show will transform the Sunset Showcase into a menacing spectacle straight out of the Magic Mirror. Slated for a summer 2025 debut, the show promises to be an eerily delightful spectacle for Disney diehards, leaving the space vacant for almost a year in anticipation.
