Disney World Battles Major Issues at Brand-New Hollywood Studios Addition a Month In

Disney World has a new attraction that should be giving families plenty to smile about. Unfortunately, guests are already discovering that one of its biggest features isn't always available.

Just weeks after opening, the new Hollywood Studios experience has reportedly encountered recurring technical problems. Disney has been using a backup version of the show.

Visitors can still participate, but they might miss the very thing that makes the attraction special.

For families planning a Hollywood Studios visit, here's what to expect and why Disney's newest addition is already facing questions about its reliability.

Disney's New Hollywood Studios Attraction Hits a Rough Patch

On September 14, 2026, Disney's Hollywood Studios opened The Magic of Disney Animation, a reimagined space dedicated to Disney's animated characters and stories.

One of its main attractions, Olaf Draws!, gives guests an opportunity to learn how to draw Disney characters alongside Olaf from Frozen (2013).

Rather than offering an ordinary drawing lesson, Disney created an interactive experience featuring an Olaf Audio-Animatronic. The snowman entertains visitors with his familiar humor, movements, and playful personality while an animator guides the drawing activity.

It's a fun concept, especially for families who want a break from roller coasters and crowded walkways.

However, the attraction hasn't enjoyed a completely smooth opening.

Reports indicate that Olaf's animatronic has experienced technical difficulties several times since its debut, leaving Disney to operate the experience without the character visible.

Guests Arrive to Find Special Part of Experience Missing

Imagine walking into Olaf Draws! expecting to see the beloved snowman moving and interacting with everyone, only to discover he's nowhere to be seen.

That's reportedly happened to guests on multiple occasions.

Although the attraction continues operating, Disney sometimes conceals the Olaf animatronic when technical problems prevent it from performing properly.

The situation is particularly disappointing because Olaf plays such an important role in the experience. His expressions, jokes, and movements help separate this attraction from traditional Disney drawing classes.

Without those elements, visitors still get an art lesson, but they lose much of the character interaction they came to enjoy.

Disney hasn't publicly identified the exact cause of the recurring problems or announced when guests can expect the issues to be permanently resolved.

Fortunately, the company has another way to keep the experience running.

Disney Switches to a Backup Show

Instead of canceling drawing sessions whenever Olaf encounters technical difficulties, Disney uses an alternate presentation known as B-mode.

Disney conceals the animatronic behind drapes and continues the show using a different prerecorded presentation.

During this version, the animator acknowledges Olaf's absence while guiding guests through the drawing activity.

Visitors can still pick up their pencils, follow the instructions, and create their own Disney artwork.

However, they won't experience Olaf's usual physical performance or the same character interactions.

For guests who simply want to learn how to draw, the backup show still offers an enjoyable activity.

Families specifically visiting to see the new animatronic, though, may feel they're missing an important part of the attraction.

And considering Olaf Draws! opened just over a month ago, repeated problems aren't exactly the first impression Disney likely wanted.

Other Experiences Are Still Available

The good news is that Olaf Draws! isn't the only reason to visit The Magic of Disney Animation.

Families can meet characters including Mulan, Rapunzel, Goofy, and Chip ‘n' Dale. Surprise appearances have also brought characters like the White Rabbit and Jiminy Cricket into the courtyard.

Younger visitors can enjoy Drawn to Wonderland, a colorful playground inspired by Alice in Wonderland (1951).

Meanwhile, the Once Upon a Studio Theater presents Once Upon a Studio (2023), complete with special effects that bring animated characters onto the theater walls.

Guests can also explore the Enchanted Art Gallery, where MagicBand+ devices and park tickets activate animated portraits.

Nearby, Treasures Untold showcases recognizable Disney keepsakes, including Kuzco's crown, Jiminy Cricket's gold star pin, and Scrump, Lilo's beloved doll.

These experiences give visitors plenty to enjoy even when Olaf isn't performing.

What Happens Next for Olaf Draws?

For now, Olaf Draws! remains open, and Disney's backup presentation allows guests to continue enjoying the drawing experience.

Still, visitors hoping to see the full show should understand that the animatronic might not always be available.

Disney hasn't announced a permanent solution, leaving families wondering how frequently these technical interruptions might continue.

Hopefully, the problems will become less common as the attraction settles into regular operation. Until then, guests should prepare for the possibility of a slightly different experience.
