Magic Kingdom is sparkling with fresh energy this summer, ushered in by the debut of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, a radiant nighttime procession that paints stories across the park using state-of-the-art lighting and projection technology.

Officially premiering on Sunday, July 20, 2025, this stunning new spectacle takes its inspiration from the nostalgic glow of the classic Main Street Electrical Parade and brings it into the modern era with a mesmerizing fusion of light, music, and movement.

Presented twice nightly at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., the parade takes guests on a journey through dreamlike realms—what Disney calls “dreamscapes”—crafted entirely from light. As described on the Disney Parks Blog, “Today’s technology gives us more options than ever to use lighting and video elements as a storytelling tool.” The result is a visual experience that feels both contemporary and timeless.

Before the grand premiere, early attendees had a sneak peek during soft opening previews on July 18 and 19, following successful test runs through Magic Kingdom. Anticipating high attendance, Disney made advanced changes to its Theme Park Reservation System in order to accommodate the expected crowd.

This led to a temporary shift in how Annual Passholders can access Magic Kingdom. Although Passholders are typically free to enter most parks after 2:00 p.m. without a reservation, Magic Kingdom became the exception starting July 20. According to the new policy: “Due to anticipated high demand upon the debut of the Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade on July 20, 2025, Passholders visiting Magic Kingdom park at any time of day (including after 2 p.m.) must have a theme park reservation.”

This change had an immediate impact. On July 20, Annual Passholder reservations for Magic Kingdom hit full capacity. In fact, July 19, 21, and 22 followed suit, marking four consecutive days with no remaining Passholder reservations available for Magic Kingdom. Even those hoping to hop parks later in the day were required to have secured a reservation in advance.

But while current Passholders are navigating new access rules, prospective ones are being greeted with a welcome perk. As reported by WDWMagic, Disney is offering a digital Disney Gift Card valued up to $100 with the purchase of a new Annual Pass. The amount varies depending on the pass type:

$100 with a Disney Incredi-Pass

$75 with a Disney Sorcerer Pass (Florida residents and eligible Disney Vacation Club members)

$50 with a Disney Pirate Pass (Florida residents only)

$25 with a Disney Pixie Dust Pass (Florida residents only)

This limited-time offer applies only to new Annual Pass purchases—it doesn’t apply to renewals or current Passholders.

Meanwhile, Magic Kingdom’s transformation doesn’t stop with entertainment. Over in Frontierland, a sweeping update is already underway, making room for the park’s bold new chapter. Part of that vision includes the Beyond Big Thunder expansion, a much-anticipated development that will introduce all-new themed environments, including a land inspired by Piston Peak National Park from Disney and Pixar’s Cars, and another celebrating Disney Villains, an idea long requested by fans.

Though Disney has yet to reveal opening dates for these upcoming lands, they reinforce a continued investment in creative storytelling and immersive world-building.

As Magic Kingdom evolves, have you had the chance to catch Starlight or navigate the new Passholder rules? And what do you think of the gift card incentive for new Annual Passholders? Join the conversation and let us know your thoughts!

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
