Toy Story Midway Mania! is officially off the table at Disney California Adventure Park as of today, April 6. Unfortunately, Disneyland Resort still hasn't said when it's coming back.

First announced in February, the Toy Story Midway Mania! refurbishment is now underway. The Pixar Pier attraction is listed as unavailable on both the Disneyland Resort website and app, with Disney directing guests to “check back here for updates.”

No details about the scope of work or a target reopening have been shared.

Reading Between the Lines

The Pixar Pier ride received Disneyland70 anniversary graphics and digital Easter eggs last year as part of the Southern California vacation destination's 70th celebration, which officially wraps on August 9. One possibility is that the closure is being used to strip out those temporary additions and restore the attraction to its standard state ahead of that date.

A more exciting theory centers on Toy Story 5 (2026), which hits theaters on June 19. With a new chapter in the franchise arriving this summer, the refurbishment window lines up closely enough to raise the question of whether Imagineers are quietly working new references into the experience before the film‘s release.

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Disneyland Park is also heading into an indefinite refurbishment on April 13, making two Toy Story (1995)-themed attractions simultaneously offline for unknown reasons. Both rides receiving attention at the same time, right before a new installment in the franchise, is difficult to chalk up entirely to coincidence.

That said, it's equally plausible that Disney is simply taking advantage of the slower spring window to handle routine maintenance and cosmetic work before Toy Story 5 draws bigger crowds to both attractions.
