Disney Cuts Hollywood Studios Hours From 12 Hours to Just 8 at Theme Park

A brand-new addition to Disney's Hollywood Studios is getting a surprisingly short window before its operating schedule changes.

The Magic of Disney Animation officially debuts September 14 after guests received an early look through soft openings. During that introductory period, Disney has scheduled the experience from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

By the end of September, that 12-hour window will disappear.

Disney's posted schedule shows The Magic of Disney Animation operating from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. beginning September 28. That means guests will have eight hours each day to visit instead of 12.

It's a four-hour daily reduction, and it arrives just two weeks after the official opening.

New Hollywood Studios Experience Gets Shorter Hours

The biggest difference may come for guests who prefer exploring Hollywood Studios later in the day.

Right now, the 9 p.m. closing gives visitors plenty of evening flexibility. After September 28, guests who haven't entered The Magic of Disney Animation before 6 p.m. will miss their opportunity for the day.

Morning plans change slightly, too. Instead of opening at 9 a.m., the building won't begin welcoming guests until 10 a.m.

Disney hasn't explained why it is reducing the schedule.

The original 9 a.m.-to-9 p.m. hours coincide with previews and the official opening period, so they may simply represent an expanded introductory schedule. Either way, guests visiting later this month will want to know about the difference.

What Guests Can Find Inside

The Magic of Disney Animation packs several experiences into the former Star Wars: Launch Bay building.

At Olaf Draws, guests can learn to draw Disney animated characters with an Audio-Animatronics Olaf and recorded lessons from Disney Animation artists.

Off the Page brings character interactions into settings designed around different animation departments.

Younger visitors have Drawn to Wonderland, a playground influenced by Mary Blair's artwork for Alice in Wonderland(1951).

The Disney Once Upon a Studio Theater also shows Once Upon a Studio (2023), bringing another piece of Disney animation history into the experience.

That variety means families could spend considerably more time inside than they would at a traditional character location.

September 28 Becomes an Important Date

The Magic of Disney Animation represents one of the final major pieces of the Walt Disney Studios Lot transformation.

Disney announced the project in 2025 before closing Animation Courtyard that September. The redesigned courtyard welcomed guests in May 2026, while the animation building remained behind walls until its September opening.

Now another change is already approaching.

Beginning September 28, guests will lose four hours of daily access as the schedule drops from 12 hours to eight.

Disney hasn't announced whether those shorter hours will remain permanently. Until something changes, however, guests planning a Hollywood Studios visit will want to make The Magic of Disney Animation an afternoon priority rather than saving it for the evening.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
