This year’s lineup for Jollywood Nights has expanded to include a new ice-skating spectacular titled Glisten!, featuring international skating champions who will perform classic Disney holiday hits. New seasonal food items, like Chicken Empanadas with Street Corn and the popular Christmas Gertie Cookie, are also back, along with complimentary Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy-themed champagne marshmallows from Wondermade. The dress code might suggest festive fashion, but Disney’s warning about shoes highlights the potential for extensive walking and waiting, as well as the return of the 10 p.m. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! nighttime show, which will cap the evening’s festivities with scenes from Disney’s holiday films.

New Dress Code Warning

Comfortable shoes can be a game-changer for Disney visitors, who often log more than 20,000 steps in a single day.

The extensive walking and standing that accompany a day at the park make supportive footwear essential, especially for events like Jollywood Nights where guests are encouraged to dance, stroll, and join in the holiday fun. The importance of appropriate footwear isn’t just a suggestion; it’s sometimes a necessity. For instance, Disney has an official rule banning Crocs from escalators in The Land pavilion at EPCOT due to repeated instances of Crocs becoming stuck, leading to a potential safety hazard.

The site reads, “Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended, to help you stroll around all the festive fun… and dance the night away.”

Disney’s official dress code underscores the need for a safe, family-friendly atmosphere. The guidelines prohibit attire with offensive or graphic imagery, excessively revealing or torn clothing, and outfits with transparent elements unless layered over appropriate attire. In fact, there have been instances where guests were turned away at the gates for not meeting these standards. Beyond aesthetics, Disney’s dress code is intended to preserve a welcoming environment for all.

Guests over 14 are also restricted from wearing full costumes outside specific events, like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Jollywood Nights, where even then, props resembling weapons or obstructive costume elements are banned for safety reasons.

Disney World has strict dress code policies to maintain its reputation as a family-friendly environment, and it enforces these rules through a straightforward process when guests violate them. When a guest’s attire doesn’t align with Disney’s guidelines, cast members politely intervene, typically as guests enter the park.

They may ask the guest to adjust or cover up, and if this isn't possible, Disney sometimes provides a complimentary shirt or directs the guest to a nearby store to purchase suitable clothing. This approach is intended to be discreet, aiming to preserve the guest’s dignity and enjoyment while still upholding the park’s standards. For guests who do not comply with the requests, Disney reserves the right to deny entry or remove individuals from the park.

Recently, however, Disney has faced an increase in deliberate dress code violations, largely fueled by social media platforms like TikTok. A trend known as the “Free Shirt Challenge” emerged, where TikTok users would enter the park in revealing or unconventional outfits with the aim of being offered a free shirt as a “fix.”

Some viral videos showed guests documenting the process, treating it as a social experiment or even a way to game the system for free merchandise. Examples include guests arriving in attire such as tops that exposed midriffs or extremely short skirts that did not meet Disney’s “family-friendly” guidelines. These videos attracted considerable attention, encouraging more visitors to try this approach and resulting in Disney increasing its scrutiny at park entrances.

In response to these trends, Disney has updated its enforcement policies to prevent abuse of the “Free Shirt” offer and ensure a more consistent application of the dress code. Cast members are now more vigilant about checking for attire violations, especially at entrances, to reduce incidents where guests push boundaries for social media content. The policy updates reflect Disney’s commitment to creating an enjoyable and respectful atmosphere for all guests, ensuring that no one is inadvertently exposed to inappropriate attire.

The Disney dress code prohibits offensive graphics or language, transparent clothing without appropriate layering, excessively torn garments, and adult costumes outside of designated events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Jollywood Nights. Additionally, Disney has specific restrictions on footwear: certain shoes, such as Crocs, are prohibited on escalators in EPCOT’s The Land Pavilion due to past incidents of footwear getting stuck. By enforcing these rules, Disney aims to preserve the experience for all parkgoers and prevent potential safety hazards, especially in cases where guests’ clothing could pose a tripping or security risk.

On the entertainment front, Jollywood Nights includes a full roster of meet-and-greet characters, with fan-favorites and new additions appearing across the park:
