Animal Kingdom's Affection Section could be closing permanently, and if this rumor is true, Disney World will have lost its only petting zoo, allowing Bluey to have more space.
Cast members have been warning guests for weeks. The writing is on the wall, even if Disney won't officially confirm it yet.

The Rumor Everyone's Talking About
Cast Members working at the Affection Section have been telling guests the petting zoo will be closing soon. Not closing for refurbishment. Not closing temporarily, and just closing.
The operating calendar only shows hours through mid-March. Nothing scheduled beyond that. For an attraction that's been operating regularly, that's a red flag.
Disney hasn't made an official announcement. They never returned requests for comment about the Affection Section's future. But when Cast Members start warning guests and the calendar mysteriously stops, you can connect the dots.
Why This Is Actually a Big Deal
The Affection Section isn't just Animal Kingdom's only petting zoo. It's Walt Disney World's only petting zoo. Period.
Magic Kingdom doesn't have one. EPCOT doesn't have one. Hollywood Studios doesn't have one.
This is the only place across the entire resort where kids can actually touch and interact with animals. Pet them. Feed them. Ask questions.
And it's about to disappear so Bluey can take over the space.
The Bluey Problem
Bluey is wildly popular. Bringing Bluey to Disney World makes business sense.
But here's what's frustrating: Disney announced that Bluey and Bingo are coming to Conservation Station this summer. Kids can play games inspired by the show.
Disney also said guests will step outside to discover an experience with animals native to Australia. That outdoor animal component needs space.
The Affection Section occupies about two-thirds of an acre with infrastructure already in place for housing and displaying animals.
So instead of finding new space, Disney apparently decided to eliminate the petting zoo and repurpose that area for Australian animals tied to Bluey.
The Timing Makes It Worse
If this was happening in isolation, it would be bad enough. But it's not happening in isolation.
DinoLand USA is already closed. Gone. Shut down for transformation into the Tropical Americas.
That closure eliminated TriceraTop Spin, the Boneyard playground, and every other family-friendly attraction in that entire section of Animal Kingdom.
So now you've got DinoLand USA closed and the Affection Section rumored to close. That's basically all the hands-on, interactive, kid-focused experiences at Animal Kingdom disappearing at the same time.
What's left for young kids? Festival of the Lion King where they sit and watch a show. Character meet-and-greets where they stand in line and pose for photos.
Those are passive experiences. Kids aren't burning energy. They're not exploring. They're not touching anything or engaging physically with their environment.
For a park that's already the hardest Disney World park for families with young children, this makes the situation dramatically worse.
What Parents Are Losing
Petting zoos aren't just cute animal interactions. They're developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children.
Kids get to touch animals and feel their fur. They watch them eat. Kids get to observe behaviors up close. And get to ask Cast Members questions and get real answers about animal care.
You can't replicate that educational value by watching animals from behind barriers at regular zoo exhibits. The tactile experience matters. The close observation matters. The direct interaction matters.
Disney is trading that hands-on educational experience for character photos and games based on a TV show.
The Unanswered Questions
Disney's silence leaves questions hanging.
What happens to the animals currently at the Affection Section? Will any petting zoo experience return to Animal Kingdom? Is this closure actually permanent? Will the Australian animal experience include interactive elements?
Without official confirmation, families planning trips can't get answers about whether this experience will be available during their visit.
What Guests Should Do
Cast Members reportedly hope Disney announces the closure with enough advance notice for guests to visit one last time.
But Disney hasn't announced anything officially. So if you care about the Affection Section and have any plans to visit Animal Kingdom in the near future, you might want to prioritize getting there sooner rather than later.
The operating calendar shows availability through mid-March. That's a definite window when the petting zoo is still accessible.
Beyond that? Nobody knows. Disney isn't talking. Cast Members are warning guests but can't give specifics. The calendar goes dark after March.
For families who valued the Affection Section as a reliable activity for young kids, losing it without a comparable replacement feels like another piece of Animal Kingdom that wasn't meant for them anymore.
