Disney Height Requirements 101

There’s nothing worse than a child anticipating their very first time on a new Disney ride, only to find out at the entrance that he or she does not meet the height requirement. This happened to us when my daughter was four. We were just about to use our Soarin’ Fastpasses when the Cast Member at the entrance stopped us. My daughter was completely devastated. Here’s a cheat sheet listing all of the height requirements for every attraction in Walt Disney World. If the attraction is not on the list, there is no posted height requirement, meaning anyone can ride that particular ride.

Magic Kingdom

  • The Barnstormer – 35 inches (89cm)
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – 40 inches (102cm)
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – 38 inches (97cm)
  • Space Mountain – 44 inches (113 cm)
  • Splash Mountain – 40 inches (102 cm)
  • Stitch’s Great Escape – 40 inches (102 cm)
  • Tomorrowland Speedway – 32 inches (82 cm)

  • Mission Space – 44 inches (113 cm)

Animal Kingdom

  • DINOSAUR – 40 inches (102 cm)
  • Expedition Everest – 44 inches (113 cm)
  • Kali River Rapids – 38 inches (97 cm)
  • Primeval Whirl – 48 inches (122 cm)

Keep in mind that the absence of a height requirement doesn’t always mean a ride is appropriate for every age. Captain EO in Epcot is a great example of this. Although this is a movie with no height requirement, the show is extremely loud and somewhat scary. This would definitely NOT be appropriate for most young children, but the Cast Members at the entrance would not stop you from going inside. The website offers age suggestions for every ride and attraction offered throughout the four parks. Do a little research prior to your vacation to ensure that all of your planned rides are appropriate for the children traveling with you.
