Guests planning a Disneyland vacation this summer have reason to celebrate, as one of the resort’s most famous attractions is expected to reopen soon.
Pirates of the Caribbean, a centerpiece of New Orleans Square since 1967, has been closed for refurbishment since early May. Now, Disney has quietly updated its calendar to include a reopening date, suggesting the attraction’s downtime is nearly over.

The legendary boat ride has occupied a special place in Disneyland history for almost 60 years. Debuting shortly after Walt Disney’s passing, the attraction demonstrated how detailed storytelling, advanced Audio-Animatronics, and immersive set design could be combined to create an experience unlike a traditional amusement park ride.
Its popularity later inspired an entire film franchise. Disney’s 2003 release Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl introduced Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow and helped turn the attraction into a worldwide entertainment brand.
In May, Disneyland closed Pirates of the Caribbean for refurbishment work, with May 3 serving as the final operating day before construction began. Disney initially offered few details about how long the attraction would remain unavailable.

That uncertainty has now been resolved. The official Disneyland website currently lists June 26 as the reopening date for Pirates of the Caribbean, indicating that guests could soon return to the attraction after nearly two months of closure.
The closure has had an impact beyond the attraction itself. Blue Bayou Restaurant, located within the Pirates of the Caribbean show building, was also affected by the project.
While the restaurant has reopened, Disney has informed guests that the experience may differ slightly while construction continues nearby. Some views traditionally visible from dining tables have been blocked, and refurbishment activity may occasionally be audible.
That notice stands out because Blue Bayou’s setting has long been one of its defining features. Dining beside a moonlit bayou while attraction boats float past has made the restaurant a favorite destination for Disneyland visitors seeking a uniquely themed meal.

Meanwhile, changes have also been drawing attention elsewhere in New Orleans Square. Fans recently noticed that Port Royal Curios and Curiosities disappeared from Disneyland’s official map. Disney has not publicly commented on the removal, leaving some guests wondering whether additional updates could be planned for the area.
Although Disney has remained relatively quiet regarding the details of the Pirates refurbishment, permit documents filed ahead of the closure provided insight into the work taking place behind the scenes.
According to information first highlighted by Theme Park IQ, the permits reference improvements throughout the attraction. Planned work includes rockwork enhancements, projector and speaker upgrades, installation of new service ladders, replacement panels and cabinets, additional grated platforms, electrical work, and other mechanical improvements.
Theme Park IQ summarized the filing by stating: “New: Disneyland has filed a permit to perform extensive work on Pirates of the Caribbean. Work includes improvements to rockwork, projectors, and speakers, as well as additional maintenance ladders installed and more.”

The attraction has evolved several times over the years. Characters from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean films, including Captain Jack Sparrow, were added to scenes throughout the ride, helping connect the attraction with the movie franchise. Even so, many of the attraction’s original show elements have remained in place for decades.
Because of that, the current refurbishment could provide important technological improvements while leaving the overall storyline and guest experience largely intact. For countless Disneyland visitors, Pirates of the Caribbean remains much more than a ride. It is a tradition that spans generations and one of the attractions most closely associated with Walt Disney’s original park.
With June 26 now listed as the attraction’s return date, guests visiting Disneyland Resort later this summer may soon have the opportunity to experience a refreshed version of the classic voyage through pirate territory, complete with updated infrastructure designed to support the attraction for years to come.
