In 2024, a guest died after dining at Raglan Road, an Irish eatery located in Disney Springs. Dr. Kanokporn Tangsuan, who had a known allergy to dairy and nuts, was the victim of a fatal allergic reaction stemming from a meal consumed at the restaurant.
Dr. Tangsuan and her party dined at Raglan Road, where they were assured that allergen-free food would be provided. She ordered a vegan shepherd’s pie, onion rings, corn fritters, and scallops, but the lawsuit claims that none of the dishes came with any label indicating potential allergens. After the meal, the group moved on to do some shopping at Disney Springs, but shortly thereafter, Dr. Tangsuan suffered a severe allergic reaction. Despite her ability to self-administer an epinephrine injection, she still required emergency assistance.
The lawsuit, led by her family, seeks damages exceeding $50,000, alongside costs and interest. It centers around the issues of food safety compliance and whether proper measures were taken to ensure the safety of those with allergies.
Allegations Against Disney and Raglan Road

The wrongful death lawsuit levied serious allegations against both Disney and Raglan Road. It primarily centers on claims of negligence concerning food safety standards. The family argues that the restaurant failed to adequately address Dr. Tangsuan’s dietary restrictions, resulting in a meal that contained hidden allergens. This negligence, they argue, directly contributed to her death.
Compounding the family’s frustrations are revelations that, in the three years prior to Dr. Tangsuan's death, five other diners with dietary restrictions reported being incorrectly served at Raglan Road. Such information raises even more alarms about the restaurant's handling of food safety and ingredient awareness, leading the plaintiffs to hold Disney and Raglan Road accountable for systemic issues rather than an isolated incident.
The legal battle has seen a series of maneuvers, including attempts by Disney to force the lawsuit into arbitration. This move drew significant criticism and backlash, particularly as Disney sought to reference fine print from agreements that customers usually sign, such as those linked to Disney+. Eventually, faced with rising public discontent, Disney retracted their arbitration request.
Court filings have since uncovered that Disney and Raglan Road are attempting to keep crucial details about food testing results confidential. Brian Denney, the lawyer representing Dr. Tangsuan's family, argued that there's no valid reason for Disney to designate these food test results as confidential, suggesting a lack of transparency in the proceedings. Furthermore, Denney highlighted the pattern of designating nearly every document related to the case as “confidential,” which he claims is not made in good faith.
The ongoing scrutiny surrounding this lawsuit poses potential ramifications for Disney’s image and operational practices. Public perception may shift negatively if the case reveals lapses in food safety protocols that could be perceived as negligence. Media coverage of the tragedy has already spotlighted the serious implications that such a high-profile case can have on a brand synonymous with family-friendly experiences.
