As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Disney is stepping into the spotlight with a comprehensive, multi-platform fireworks broadcast set to dazzle viewers across the nation. The event, part of the larger “Disney Celebrates America” initiative, will coincide with a host of special programming and park updates designed to honor this historic milestone.

A Historic Broadcast for a Historic Birthday
Launching on Veterans Day 2025 and running through the July 4th weekend in 2026, Disney’s celebration will culminate in a massive 24-hour broadcast event aptly named Disney Celebrates America. This special will air across Disney’s expansive media network, including Disney+, Hulu, ABC, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic, ensuring that audiences coast to coast can join in the festivities.
Leading the coverage will be ABC’s David Muir, anchor and managing editor of World News Tonight, who will be joined by an array of ABC News personalities, ESPN commentators, and National Geographic experts. Together, they will provide in-depth reports, feature stories, and special segments highlighting the unique places and people that define America.
The broadcast’s grand finale will be a dual fireworks display from Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California, bringing an iconic Disney touch to the Independence Day celebrations.
Extended Fireworks for an Extended Celebration
Unlike previous years, Disney is extending its July 4th fireworks across three consecutive nights—from July 3 through July 5—at both Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland. This expansion allows guests more opportunities to enjoy the patriotic pyrotechnics and the beloved Celebrate America! — A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky show.
Soarin’ Across America Debuts as Part of the Celebration
In a move that ties the parks directly into the anniversary festivities, Disney will debut a revamped version of the popular Soarin’ attraction called Soarin’ Across America in Summer 2026. This updated ride experience will replace Soarin’ Around the World at EPCOT and Disney California Adventure Park, offering guests a stunning aerial tour of iconic American landscapes and city skylines.
Disney Imagineers have meticulously crafted the new journey to highlight the country’s natural wonders and historic landmarks, enhanced by immersive effects such as scent and sound to deepen the sense of flight and place.
More Than Just Fireworks: Programming Across Disney’s Brands
The 250th anniversary celebrations are not confined to the parks and the broadcast. Disney’s media brands are rolling out extensive programming that explores America’s rich tapestry.
-
ABC’s Good Morning America continues its 50 States in 50 Weeks series, spotlighting diverse communities and notable stories from across the country.
-
National Geographic will launch America in Superlatives, showcasing extraordinary American places and people through compelling storytelling.
-
ESPN is introducing a new segment, America’s Team, that investigates which sports team best embodies the country’s spirit, alongside patriotic programming that includes live coverage of the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4.
-
ABC News Studios will produce a primetime special in June 2026, weaving together stories from iconic American cities with connections to Disney Parks to celebrate the nation’s culture and history.
Honoring Military Families and Veterans
Continuing a longstanding commitment, Disney is dedicating significant resources to honor U.S. military service members and their families during the anniversary year. The company is contributing $2.5 million to Blue Star Families to support programs benefiting military households nationwide.
Disney will also host special movie screenings for military families, offer exclusive park discounts and experiences, and highlight veterans’ stories through ABC News coverage. This ongoing support underscores Disney’s role not only as an entertainment powerhouse but also as a company invested in American communities.
Commemorative Merchandise and More
Fans can look forward to a fresh line of Americana-themed merchandise arriving in May 2026, featuring military-inspired collections and commemorative items available at Disney parks and online. These offerings will provide guests with tangible keepsakes to remember the nation’s semiquincentennial.
A Celebration Rooted in Storytelling and Patriotism
The Walt Disney Company CEO Robert Iger summed up the spirit of the initiative, saying, “At its heart, America’s story is one of imagination, ambition, and possibility—the same ideals that have guided Disney since the beginning.”
Through these celebrations, Disney aims to bring to life the country’s enduring story, inspiring viewers and guests alike to reflect on America’s past achievements and its future potential.
