Disney Redirects EPCOT Visitors to Animal Kingdom This October

Walt Disney World has quietly shuffled its Extended Evening Hours calendar again, and this time the change is drawing plenty of attention. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been added to the schedule for Monday, October 27, 2025, giving guests staying at Deluxe Resorts and Villas the rare opportunity to enjoy the park after dark.

For most visitors, Animal Kingdom is synonymous with early closures. Even during peak vacation seasons, the park tends to shut down around 6:00 p.m., long before Orlando’s sun sets. The October update extends the official operating day to 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., with two additional hours reserved exclusively for qualifying resort guests from 8:00–10:00 p.m. This may sound like a small adjustment, but for Animal Kingdom it’s an unusually late finish — and that’s exactly why fans are buzzing.

The headline attraction of this calendar shift is undoubtedly Pandora – The World of Avatar. While the immersive land dazzles by day, many argue it is at its most breathtaking after dark. Pathways glow beneath guests’ feet, oversized flora beams with radiant colors, and the alien landscape takes on an otherworldly atmosphere that feels entirely different from what you’ll see in the sunlight.

The problem? Guests almost never experience it. Because Animal Kingdom closes before sunset for much of the year, the land’s nighttime presentation is often missed. On October 27, however, Deluxe guests will finally have the chance to witness Pandora in full bioluminescent bloom during Extended Evening Hours — and without the long standby lines that usually come with rides like Avatar Flight of Passage or Na’vi River Journey.

Attractions in the Evening Lineup

While Pandora will likely be the star, the rest of the park’s attractions also benefit from lower waits and the unique setting of nighttime operation.

  • Expedition Everest is a must after sundown, with its twisting track and glowing mountain range even more thrilling against the night sky.

  • DINOSAUR remains a crowd-pleaser, and the later hours make it easy to hop back in line again and again.

  • Kilimanjaro Safaris has occasionally extended into twilight during similar events, offering glimpses of the savanna in a totally different light. Whether it makes the lineup in October remains to be seen, but fans are hopeful.

Even walking through the park is part of the draw. The dim lanterns in Asia, the reflections along Discovery River, and the hushed atmosphere all give Animal Kingdom a vibe many guests never get to experience.

A Coveted Resort Guest Perk

Extended Evening Hours are reserved for a narrow group: guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villas, or select partner hotels. The benefit adds two hours of exclusive park access, generally with lower crowds and shorter waits than during the day. Unlike ticketed After Hours events, there’s no additional cost beyond the resort stay, making it one of the most valuable perks still offered to higher-tier hotel guests.

Traditionally, EPCOT has been the Monday night destination for Extended Evening Hours, while Disney’s Hollywood Studios has filled most Wednesdays. Magic Kingdom occasionally appears on the roster as well. Animal Kingdom was only added to the program this past summer, and its appearances remain rare. That makes October 27 the first Monday slot Animal Kingdom has claimed on the official calendar.

Why October 27 Stands Out

Timing is everything here. Sunset in Orlando on October 27 occurs just after 6:45 p.m. By the time the regular day ends at 8:00, the park will be fully dark — perfect conditions for enjoying attractions like Flight of Passage, Everest, and Na’vi River Journey under the stars. The schedule also places the event right in the middle of the busy fall travel season, when EPCOT’s Food & Wine Festival is in full swing and Halloween festivities draw heavy crowds. For Deluxe guests, this after-hours access will feel like an oasis from the otherwise packed October calendar.

What It Could Mean Going Forward

Animal Kingdom has always faced challenges as a late-night destination due to its dual role as both theme park and animal habitat. Disney has experimented cautiously with nighttime operations over the years, balancing entertainment with animal welfare. The decision to give the park a Monday Extended Evening Hours slot suggests a willingness to keep testing how guests respond to extended nights at Animal Kingdom.

Whether this becomes a more regular occurrence remains to be seen, but for now the upcoming October date feels like an event in itself. For many fans, it will be their first real chance to linger in Pandora after dark, enjoy Everest in a new way, or simply stroll the park’s winding paths with the kind of calm rarely found during daytime visits.

Bottom line: if you’re staying at a Deluxe Resort this fall, circle October 27, 2025 on your calendar. Animal Kingdom’s Extended Evening Hours may be just two hours long, but for guests lucky enough to attend, it’s poised to deliver one of the season’s most unique Disney World experiences.
