Disney Releases Latest Details on Coaster Still Under Extended Closure

Disney fans have been waiting months to get a better look at the upcoming transformation of Rock ā€˜n’ Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios, and now the company is finally starting to pull back the curtain.

Between new promotional photos, attraction details, themed merchandise previews, and fresh looks shared online, Disney is making one thing very clear: this is not a simple overlay. The Muppets are fully taking over one of Walt Disney World’s most intense thrill rides.

The newly reimagined attraction, officially titled Rock ā€˜n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, is set to open May 26 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Over the last several days, Disney Parks and Walt Disney World social media accounts have been flooding fans with new images and behind-the-scenes teases, giving guests a clearer picture of what to expect when the updated coaster officially debuts.

And honestly, the scale of the retheme is much bigger than many people expected.

For years, Rock ā€˜n’ Roller Coaster was closely associated with Aerosmith, neon alleyways, and early 2000s rock-and-roll energy. Now, Disney is pivoting the attraction toward something far more chaotic, colorful, and unmistakably Muppet-driven, while still keeping the high-speed thrills that made the coaster famous in the first place.

Disney Is Fully Leaning Into The Muppets Theme

Disney Parks first confirmed the opening date on X, posting: ā€œRock ā€˜n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opens May 26 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios šŸŽ¢ā€

That announcement was quickly followed by additional posts showcasing the attraction’s updated exterior, ride vehicles, and merchandise collection.

Disney Parks later shared another update, writing: ā€œFinal tune-up before the big show for The Muppets šŸŽ¤ An updated look at Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets šŸŽøā€

The photos immediately grabbed attention online because they revealed just how dramatically the attraction’s visual identity is changing.

The iconic guitar marquee outside the coaster has been redesigned with a psychedelic Electric Mayhem-inspired paint scheme that pulls directly from the colorful style of the Muppets band. Disney also confirmed that the piano design near the base of the sign now includes a golden key as a tribute to Dr. Teeth.

It still looks like Rock ā€˜n’ Roller Coaster, but now it feels like the Muppets completely hijacked the building.

The Storyline Turns Guests Into VIP Concert Guests

Disney also released new story details explaining how the updated attraction experience will work.

According to Disney, guests will enter G-Force Records, a legendary music studio now operating under ā€œnew management.ā€ The Electric Mayhem is preparing for what Disney describes as ā€œthe most buzzworthy concert Hollywood has ever seen.ā€

There is only one problem. The band is nowhere to be found.

That setup launches guests into the coaster experience as they race through Los Angeles trying to make it to the concert event alongside Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, Lips, and the rest of the Electric Mayhem crew.

The updated queue and preshow areas appear packed with visual jokes, celebrity references, and hidden details. Disney confirmed that guests will spot celebrity cameos throughout the attraction featuring stars including Awkwafina, Danny Trejo, John Stamos, Neil Patrick Harris, Wayne Brady, and Weird Al Yankovic among others.

Disney is also introducing the first-ever Audio-Animatronics version of Scooter, created using motion-capture technology to closely replicate the Muppet’s movements and expressions.

That detail alone has longtime Muppets fans especially excited.

Disney Photo Pass shared the new on-ride photos on Instagram stating, ā€œWe’re days away from the opening of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets! šŸŽø After rockin’ out with The Electric Mayhem, you’ll receive three concert-inspired versions of your attraction photo from #DisneyPhotoPass šŸ“øā€

The Music Might Be the Biggest Change of All

While the visuals are getting plenty of attention, the soundtrack overhaul may end up defining the attraction’s new identity.

Disney revealed that each ride experience will feature songs performed by The Electric Mayhem alongside several major music collaborators. The confirmed set list includes:

ā€œSong 2ā€ by The Electric Mayhem

ā€œBorn To Be Wildā€ featuring Camilla the Chicken

ā€œLove Rollercoasterā€ featuring Jennifer Hudson and Questlove

ā€œRock! Rock! (Till You Drop)ā€ featuring Def Leppard

ā€œWalking on Sunshineā€ featuring Kelly Clarkson

Each launch sequence reportedly delivers a different musical experience, giving the coaster a concert-style format that changes depending on which track guests receive.

That could have a major impact on repeat rides. Fans who already love re-riding attractions may now have an additional reason to jump back in line trying to experience every soundtrack variation.

Disney Is Expanding the Experience Beyond the Ride

The retheme is not stopping at the coaster itself.

Disney also previewed an entirely new merchandise line tied to the attraction. Walt Disney World’s official account posted: ā€œRock out in style 🤘 Check out the brand-new Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets merchandise collection šŸŽøā€

The collection includes apparel, accessories, and ride-themed souvenirs available at Rock Around the Shop near the attraction exit.

Meanwhile, the nearby food stand formerly associated with the courtyard area is also receiving updates. FƘƘD by Swedish Chef is introducing a refreshed menu and updated visual design inspired by the Muppets takeover.

Disney has already teased specialty snacks and themed drinks, including the Electric Slushy and the Churro Drum Stick, adding another layer to the overall land experience.

For guests planning vacations to Walt Disney World Resort this summer, this matters more than people may realize. Major attraction launches can significantly impact crowd patterns at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, especially when tied to beloved characters and limited-edition merchandise.

How This Could Affect Disney World Vacations

Anytime Disney debuts a major attraction update, crowd behavior changes almost immediately.

The opening of Rock ā€˜n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets on May 26 could increase demand at Disney’s Hollywood Studios throughout the summer travel season, especially among longtime Muppets fans and guests curious about the new soundtrack and ride experience.

Lightning Lane demand will likely spike. Merchandise lines may become longer during the opening weeks. Even nearby dining locations could see heavier crowds because of the new themed offerings at FƘƘD by Swedish Chef.

Guests visiting Walt Disney World during opening season may want to plan Hollywood Studios days carefully, especially if this coaster is high on their must-do list.

At the same time, this transformation also gives Disney’s Hollywood Studios something it has needed for a while: a fresh headline attraction update that feels energetic, marketable, and highly shareable online.

And judging by Disney’s aggressive social media rollout this week, the company clearly knows fans are paying attention.

If you are heading to Disney World later this year, now is probably the time to start deciding whether you are ready to trade Aerosmith for Animal screaming through a super-stretch limo at highway speeds. Because come May 26, the Muppets officially take the stage.
