Weeks after announcing its unpopular decision to enact a “no bag policy” during this year’s D23 event, The Walt Disney Company is now backtracking slightly, revealing bags will be allowed for select, paying guests.

Disney will hold its annual D23 Expo at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, beginning August 9-11, and it will undoubtedly announce several exciting new projects. However, 2024 marks a big shift for D23, with the event being held in two separate locations.

This year, fans will be able to attend the main event at the Anaheim Convention Center and several panels at the Honda Center.

These panels will be divided by category and will include the following: Disney Entertainment, which includes Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney animation; the Disney Experiences Panel, which focuses on theme park news; and the Disney Legends Ceremony, which honors celebrities, Imagineers, and other important figures within The Walt Disney Company.

The Honda Center allows more guests to attend the event, but it does not allow guests to bring in bags, posing a big issue for those wanting to purchase exclusive merchandise and bring in their own personal items.

However, Disney has updated its language regarding this controversial bag policy, announcing that a bag storage option will be offered for those in attendance at the Honda Center. This option will be available for a “nominal fee” and will allow guests to store their belongings safely inside the building.

This option will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, indicating availability will run out.

Guests are allowed to bring in a maximum bag size of 5″ x 9″. Medical and diaper bags are allowed but may not exceed 12″ x 12″ x 12″.

Disney’s annual D23 expo is a must-see event for fans and is where major news, like movie release dates and brand-new theme park rides, is first revealed. Previous D23 events have given guests and fans alike insight into Disney’s latest projects, both inside and outside the theme parks.

News about Star Wars and Marvel is also revealed, with Disney using the event to announce new films and TV series. Many fans are looking forward to D23 in 2024, with The Walt Disney Company expected to make several more major announcements regarding Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

In 2022, Disney revealed it was planning to completely retheme DinoLand U.S.A., a land dedicated to prehistoric life in Animal Kingdom. This news sent a shockwave throughout the Walt Disney World fandom, with Disney teasing franchises like Zootopia and Moana would take over the space.

However, this announcement came and went, with Disney backtracking on this announcement in 2023. Disney’s current plan is to replace dinosaurs at Animal Kingdom with other popular IPs (intellectual properties) like Indiana Jones and Encanto.

One of the most exciting and talked-about Disney projects in recent memory has to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the newest ride to open at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This new attraction was announced nearly four years ago, and it will replace Disney’s legendary Splash Mountain.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure takes guests on an all-new “adventure” alongside the titular Princess TIana herself in a story inspired by Disney’s 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open this summer at Magic Kingdom in Florida and will open at a later date in California.

About Luke Dammann

When at Disney world, Luke will probably be found eating with his favorite animatronic, Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. When not at Disney World, Luke will probably be found defending Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe to people who claim "there are better restaurants"
