The Earth Month celebrations continue this April at Walt Disney World! The latest Earth Month Disney news is especially wonderful in our opinion, as Walt Disney World shares their involvement in three local children’s hospitals in the Central Florida area. To build on their reimagining of the patient experience at these hospitals, they went virtual when COVID-19 hit and brought the magic of animals and nature to hospitalized children.
It’s no surprise that Disney’s Animals, Science & Environment cast members are dedicated to all things animals and nature… but this time they are sharing that love and connecting with the community, especially with kids. A new, virtual solution delivered animal education and Disney magic in a whole new way!
At local hospitals including, AdventHealth for Children, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, and Nemours Children’s Hospital, Disney used animals such as rabbits, hedgehogs and birds to distract from the stress of a hospital stay in young Disney fans. The animal care experts would introduce children to these animals and talk about how they too sometimes receive medical care.
The reimagined virtual version allowed this program to connect to the children through a series of videos featuring animals found in our parks and important conservation messages. Then, Disney took the experience one step further and brought in Animation Experience character artists! These artist showed the children how to draw characters such as Dumbo and Simba with learn-to-draw tutorials.
Just look at that sweet smile! Way to go Disney! Our prayers are with the families and children going through hospitalizations. Stay strong!
