A big shake-up is on the horizon for Walt Disney World Resort as one of its beloved theme parks seemingly prepares to close indefinitely in just a couple of months, signaling another operational change at the Central Florida destination.
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is home to four iconic theme parks—Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom—as well as two water parks, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Since November 2024, Disney has been operating solely Blizzard Beach, with Typhoon Lagoon closed for its seasonal refurbishment.
The rotation of Disney’s water parks has become a familiar strategy since the pandemic era, and it now seems to be a permanent fixture in the overall guest experience. In other words, guests visiting the resort can typically expect only one water park to be open at any given time—unless, of course, their visit coincides with the seasonal handover period.
Traditionally, one park closes just as the other opens, ensuring guests always have access to a water park experience during their stay. Now, new information suggests we might have a solid timeframe for when Blizzard Beach will close indefinitely and Typhoon Lagoon will make its much-anticipated return.
According to the official Walt Disney World website, the operating calendar extends through July 20, 2025. However, Blizzard Beach only has scheduled hours up to March 29, with no operating times available beyond that date. Interestingly, Typhoon Lagoon is also listed as “No Times Available” for March 30. In previous years, the park reopened on March 19 in 2024 and March 17 in 2023, meaning a March 30 reopening would be a slightly later return compared to previous seasons.
If history is any indicator, it appears likely that Blizzard Beach will close for the season on March 29, with Typhoon Lagoon reopening the following day on March 30. However, it’s important to note that Disney has not yet confirmed these details.
Blizzard Beach has faced a challenging season, with numerous weather-related closures due to persistent cold fronts. Just before the New Year, both Blizzard Beach and Universal’s Volcano Bay experienced extended closures due to harsh weather conditions, and the frigid temperatures have continued to impact operations well into the new year.
