At Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom, the excitement of progress comes hand-in-hand with occasional interruptions, and the Astro Orbiter attraction in Tomorrowland is the latest example.
After an extensive refurbishment that began in January 2025 and wrapped up just ahead of the summer rush on June 27, Astro Orbiter surprised guests with a multi-day closure less than a month after its grand return. The attraction went offline the afternoon of Sunday, July 13, and stayed closed for the next two days. It didn’t reopen to morning guests on July 16, creating frustration for those eager to take flight aboard the iconic rockets.

Fortunately, by 2 p.m. on July 16, the ride began operating again, concluding a 72-hour period of unexpected downtime. While Disney did not provide an official explanation, the closure may have been related to final tweaks following the ride’s comprehensive refurbishment.
Astro Orbiter’s location places it at the heart of Tomorrowland, near landmarks like Space Mountain and the PeopleMover, drawing a steady crowd. With the park’s broader expansion underway—walls surrounding Tom Sawyer Island, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on pause, and Rivers of America drained—guest experiences are shifting throughout the Magic Kingdom.
According to the official ride description from Walt Disney World: “Hold on tight as your retro 2-passenger spacecraft levitates high into the air, picks up speed and begins orbiting a galaxy of planets while the sights and sounds of Tomorrowland whirl by far below.”

For those planning a visit, Astro Orbiter is set to resume its normal hours from July 17, with daily operation from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.. It remains a part of the Early Theme Park Entry offering, meaning eligible guests can experience it as early as 8:30 a.m. before the park opens to the public.
These brief, unannounced pauses can catch even seasoned guests off guard, but they also serve as reminders of the constant work happening behind the scenes to keep attractions fresh, safe, and running at their best.
