The splash pad at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is back in operation following a refurbishment that saw the children’s water-play area closed off without advance public notice. The project, which began with a maintenance closure in September, has delivered a revised color scheme to the area’s central structure.

During the work, temporary barriers blocked guest access to the splash pad as crews worked across several parts of the space. Plastic coverings were placed over sections of the flooring and several pillars, and surface preparation and apparent repainting took place on multiple features. Disney did not provide a reopening date for families with upcoming reservations.
Attention centered on the central structure, previously finished in light blue with gold spots and a gold bucket at the top, along with nearby water shooters and shorter pillars. The visible changes pointed to a largely cosmetic project, although Disney did not confirm the full scope.
According to WDW News Today, the splash pad has now reopened, with water once again running through its interactive elements. The area now features various shades of blue, while the circles and bucket on the central structure have moved from gold to dark gray. WDWNT also noted that the flooring and plumbing may have been refreshed where needed.
The reopening arrives during a busy week for the Magic Kingdom resort area. Fall and Halloween decor and celebrations at Magic Kingdom conclude on October 31, with the holiday season taking over from November 1. Contemporary guests, who have walking access to the park, will have a close view of the transition, and families arriving for the holidays will find the splash pad operating again.

The splash pad’s return does not mark the end of construction at the hotel. Disney’s Contemporary Resort has been in a multi-phase refurbishment since September 2024, with work expected to continue through late 2027. The project has included the Main Tower and its exterior, exterior panels and balconies, the atrium, Bay Lake Tower, and portions of the fourth-floor observation deck.
Guests may still encounter scaffolding, construction coverings, restricted areas, and daytime work. Disney has not confirmed whether the splash pad project was tied to the broader refurbishment.
The Contemporary remains one of Walt Disney World’s most recognizable hotels, known for its A-frame Main Tower, the monorail running through the building, and walkable access to Magic Kingdom. With work continuing into late 2027, guests should monitor official Disney resort updates ahead of their trip, as conditions around the property may change.
