Walt Disney World is moving two of its most important nighttime productions forward by 30 minutes, creating a late-summer itinerary trap for guests who have already planned their final meals, rides, and viewing times.
According to Disney’s currently published entertainment calendar, Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will move from 9 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning August 23. Eight days later, on August 31, Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom will shift from 10 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on scheduled performance nights.
Neither production is being shortened or removed. The problem is simpler: guests working from an earlier screenshot, saved itinerary, or old planning guide could arrive half an hour too late.
Disney World Moves Fantasmic! Earlier on August 23
The first adjustment takes effect Sunday, August 23, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney’s calendar currently lists the primary performance of Fantasmic! at 8:30 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than its present 9 p.m. slot. On select nights offering a second performance, that later show will also move forward—from 10:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
That distinction matters because Fantasmic! is not a conventional stand-and-watch fireworks display. It is a roughly 29-minute outdoor theatrical production inside the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater, combining live performers, water screens, music, projections, stunts, and pyrotechnics around Mickey Mouse’s battle against Disney Villains.
Guests need time to enter the amphitheater and find seats before the production begins. Disney advises that the venue may open as early as 90 minutes before showtime, although arriving that far in advance is not mandatory.
An 8:30 p.m. start therefore affects more than the final half-hour of the evening. It can force an earlier dinner, eliminate one last attraction from the plan, or create a conflict with a Lightning Lane return window.
This is not the first Fantasmic! clock change of 2026. Disney moved the production to 8:30 p.m. during the spring before returning it to 9 p.m. as sunset shifted later. The August revision reverses that seasonal move.
Guests using a Fantasmic! Dining Package should check the performance printed on their voucher. Disney assigns package guests to a particular show when multiple performances are scheduled, so the existence of a later show does not necessarily allow them to switch at will.
Happily Ever After Changes on August 31
Magic Kingdom follows on Monday, August 31.
The resort calendar currently lists Happily Ever After at 9:30 p.m. that evening, moving the fireworks-and-projection spectacular 30 minutes earlier than its current 10 p.m. schedule.
The adjustment is small on a calendar and significant on Main Street, U.S.A.
Guests routinely build the last portion of a Magic Kingdom day backward from Happily Ever After. A 10 p.m. performance can leave room for a late dinner, another attraction, or a slow walk toward Cinderella Castle. Moving the show to 9:30 p.m. removes that cushion—and the viewing area does not wait for anyone caught on the other side of the park.
Inside the Magic previously tracked the show’s move from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in April, when later sunsets pushed Magic Kingdom’s signature finale deeper into the evening. Its return to 9:30 p.m. reflects another seasonal calendar adjustment, although Disney has not publicly stated why August 31 was selected.
Importantly, Happily Ever After will not literally run “nightly” after the change. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party occupies Magic Kingdom on numerous evenings, including August 30 and September 1. On those dates, regular daytime guests must leave before the separately ticketed event, which presents Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular instead.
That Halloween calendar is already creating another planning concern as multiple 2026 party dates sell out. Visitors should confirm both the fireworks schedule and whether Magic Kingdom is hosting a party before finalizing an evening plan.
Thirty Minutes Can Reshape the End of a Disney Day
The productions themselves are not changing. What changes is the runway leading into them.
At Hollywood Studios, guests should reconsider dinner reservations, Lightning Lane selections, and the time needed to reach Sunset Boulevard. At Magic Kingdom, they should account for the walk to Cinderella Castle and the possibility that preferred viewing areas will fill before 9:30 p.m.
An earlier performance can also offer one advantage: guests may finish sooner, begin their trip back to the resort earlier, or—in Magic Kingdom’s case—potentially return to attractions after the fireworks if operating hours allow.
For now, August 23 and August 31 are the dates to remember. Because Disney says entertainment times remain subject to change, guests should check My Disney Experience again during the week of their visit rather than treating today’s calendar as permanent.
