Florida Woman’s Disney World Crime Spirals—Deputy Bitten, Trial Turns Unexpected

Disney World Arrest Turns Violent

On a seemingly typical Halloween night in 2024, Alix Amozig, a 24-year-old woman from Merritt Island, found herself at the center of an unsettling incident at Disney World’s EPCOT.

Incident Overview at Disney EPCOT

The evening took a chaotic turn when she attempted to access a restricted area of the park, specifically trying to open a door leading to an off-stage area at the EPCOT Monorail platform. Upon being confronted by security personnel, Amozig exhibited erratic behavior and refused to comply with their commands.

As the situation escalated, security officers decided to escort her down the Monorail ramp. It was reported that Amozig claimed she could not breathe and required medical attention. This led to Disney paramedics being called to the scene.

However, her actions continued to spiral, as she not only spoke incoherently but also struck one of the medics, knocking his glasses off. In an unexpected twist, the medic opted not to press charges, which added a bizarre layer to the already strange sequence of events.

Details of the Deputy’s Response

At approximately 10:50 p.m., as EPCOT was winding down for the night, Deputy James Waters of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to manage the unfolding situation. Upon arrival, he immediately noticed the signs of intoxication in Amozig’s demeanor. Recognizing the need to take action, he attempted to trespass her from the property.

Despite Deputy Waters’ attempts to handle the situation with due diligence, Amozig resisted arrest vehemently. He detailed in the arrest report that she pulled away when he tried to handcuff her, yelling and ignoring his commands. Sensing the urgency to ensure her compliance and his safety, he tried to implement a wrist lock, which unfortunately proved ineffective.

Ultimately, the situation escalated further, leading him to maneuver her to the ground in an attempt to secure the handcuffs. In a startling turn of events, while on the ground, Amozig managed to bite Deputy Waters’ right hand, inflicting two abrasions. Despite the chaotic nature of the altercation, she was ultimately restrained and taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital before being transported to the Orange County Jail.

Legal Implications for the Suspect

Following these tumultuous events, Alix Amozig faced serious legal repercussions. She was arrested and charged with trespass, resisting an officer without violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer. The gravity of her actions in the theme park led her to plead not guilty, with her trial scheduled for March 31, 2025.

Complicating matters further, it emerged during the legal proceedings that there were considerations relating to her history. The court documents revealed connections to prior incidents that could play a critical role in her case. As the trial date approaches, the legal community watches closely, eager to see how her defense will argue against the established charges.

Adding another layer of complexity to the already convoluted case, Deputy Waters, the arresting officer, found himself embroiled in legal troubles of his own. Reports surfaced that he had been arrested in December on an unrelated domestic violence battery charge in Polk County. While the state attorney’s office chose not to pursue charges against him after the alleged victim opted not to prosecute, the implications were significant.

Another Disney World Arrest in the Books

Waters’ situation raised questions about his credibility as a law enforcement officer, which could have a profound effect on the interpretation of the events surrounding Amozig’s arrest. His placement on the Brady List—a record of officers with credibility issues—casts uncertainty on his ability to testify effectively in court.

As the public grapples with these unfolding events, broader questions surface regarding public safety and order in large, bustling places such as theme parks. The incident at EPCOT not only highlights the challenges faced by park security but also illuminates the difficulties law enforcement faces in maintaining order in highly populated environments.

The strange and troubling saga involving Alix Amozig and Deputy Waters serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of public spaces, particularly during high-traffic occasions like Halloween. As trial dates loom and more details emerge, observers are left wondering what the final outcomes will be for both the suspect and the officer involved.
