There's nothing worse than checking into an expensive Disney World hotel and realizing construction is going to be part of your vacation.
Unfortunately, that's now something guests at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort need to consider.

A substantial refurbishment is officially underway at the popular Disney World hotel. More importantly, Disney isn't expecting the work to disappear anytime soon.
The Convention Center project began August 10, 2026, and is currently scheduled to continue through September 2027. The work will also reach beyond the Convention Center itself, affecting the El Centro Corridor and surrounding areas.
That's a long construction window.
And if you have an upcoming reservation, it might be worth checking whether another Disney World hotel makes more sense.
More Than a Year of Construction Is Planned
Disney regularly refurbishes its hotels.
Sometimes that means a restaurant closes temporarily. Other projects involve pools, hotel rooms, transportation areas, or exterior maintenance.
This Coronado Springs project stands out because of its timeline.
Construction began in August 2026 and isn't expected to finish until September 2027.
That means we're talking about roughly 13 months of scheduled work.
Disney will complete the project in phases, which should prevent all affected areas from becoming unavailable simultaneously. However, it also creates some uncertainty for guests.
Certain areas of the hotel could be unavailable at different times as the project progresses.
If your trip is several months away, it's difficult to know exactly what the resort will look like when you arrive.
Is It Really Worth Canceling?
That depends entirely on your vacation.
If you booked Coronado Springs because you got a great deal and plan to spend 12 hours per day inside the parks, we'd hesitate before paying significantly more to stay somewhere else.
You may barely notice the refurbishment.
But the calculation changes for guests planning to actually enjoy the resort.

Maybe you've scheduled a full day away from the parks. Perhaps your family frequently returns to the hotel during the afternoon. You might also enjoy exploring the resort, eating there, or simply relaxing without constantly heading somewhere else.
In those cases, construction matters more.
You're paying for the hotel experience as part of your Disney vacation.
If another resort offers a similar price without the same concerns, switching becomes an attractive option.
The Phased Construction Makes Planning Difficult
The biggest issue isn't necessarily what's closed today.
It's what could be affected when your vacation actually arrives.
Disney has confirmed that the El Centro Corridor and surrounding areas will undergo refurbishment alongside the Convention Center project. Some portions of the hotel may become unavailable during different phases.
That leaves guests with a decision.
You can keep the reservation and accept that construction may become part of your stay, or you can look at alternatives now.
Neither decision is automatically wrong.
But guests spending thousands of dollars on a Disney World vacation deserve to know what they're walking into.
Construction Is Becoming Familiar Around Disney World Hotels
Coronado Springs also isn't alone.
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has ongoing construction around its porte cochere, with that project expected to continue through at least early 2027.
Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort has also been undergoing work scheduled to continue into late 2027.

That's why guests shouldn't change hotels blindly.
Before canceling Coronado Springs, check the refurbishment situation at whatever resort you're considering as a replacement.
You don't want to move your reservation simply to discover another major project waiting for you.
Coronado Springs Guests Have a Decision To Make
The good news is that Coronado Springs remains open.
The bad news is that this construction project is only beginning.
With work scheduled through September 2027, the refurbishment could affect guests throughout the remainder of 2026 and most of next year.
That doesn't mean everyone needs to cancel.
It does mean everyone with an upcoming Coronado Springs reservation should reconsider their options.
Check prices at other Disney World hotels. Think about how much time you'll spend at the resort. Consider whether construction would actually bother your family.
If Coronado Springs still makes the most sense, keep it.
But if you can switch to another resort for a comparable price, avoiding more than a year of scheduled construction could be worth making the change before your Disney World vacation begins.
