Disney World Guests Furious After Popular Hotel Confirms Closure

One thing is certain at Walt Disney World: nothing stays the same for long. From attractions to dining experiences, Disney constantly refreshes its offerings to keep guests returning.

Now, those updates are hitting another part of the resort experience—hotels. Disney has confirmed a crucial closure and refurbishment at one of its most beloved resorts.

Why Resort Hotels Matter

Staying at a Disney hotel has always been about more than convenience. Guests get to extend the magic beyond the parks with immersive theming, exclusive perks like Early Entry, and easy transportation to all four theme parks.

From the budget-conscious Value Resorts to the luxurious Deluxe category, each Disney property offers its unique vibe. And with vacationers often spending whole days at their hotels, any announcement of closures or refurbishments quickly sparks guest interest.

The Unique Charm of Animal Kingdom Lodge

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a standout among Disney’s resorts. Opened in 2001, the hotel is designed as an authentic African safari lodge, surrounding guests with views of animals like giraffes, zebras, and antelopes. It’s not unusual to wake up and see wildlife grazing outside your balcony.

The resort is split into Jambo House, the main building, and Kidani Village, a Disney Vacation Club extension. Between its authentic decor, cultural programs, and celebrated restaurants such as Jiko and Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge has earned its reputation as a destination resort.

Extensive Refurbishments Announced

Disney has outlined a lengthy schedule of updates for the property. Work began in July 2025 on the Zebra Trail Terrace at Jambo House, and the next phase kicks off in October 2025 with Kidani Village guest room refurbishments.

This comprehensive project, which will update everything from furniture to lighting to flooring, is scheduled to run until May 2026. Afterward, Jambo House guest rooms will undergo the same treatment from May 2026 through January 2027.

These will be the first large-scale updates since the Villas opened more than 15 years ago. Disney may also add Murphy beds to improve functionality, giving families extra flexibility and space. By the end, Animal Kingdom Lodge will have a refreshed, modern look without losing the thematic details that make it so special.

Brand New Shutdown

In addition to the room refurbishments, guests should prepare for another temporary change: the Samawati Springs Pool Slide at Kidani Village will close for routine maintenance starting September 8, 2025. The pool will remain open, and those craving a waterslide experience can head to Uzima Springs Pool at Jambo House.

What It Means for Guests

While these projects promise exciting updates, they also bring short-term inconveniences. Depending on when they visit, guests may face construction activity, limited availability, or closed amenities. Still, the end goal is clear: ensuring Disney’s resorts meet the high standards expected by families paying premium prices.

Once the dust settles, Animal Kingdom Lodge will combine modernized rooms with its signature African lodge theming, delivering an unforgettable stay worth the wait.
