Guests heading to Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom this week encountered an unexpected disappointment.

Pandora has drawn large crowds since making its debut at Walt Disney World in 2017. Bringing James Cameron's Avatar universe to life, the themed land recreates the lush moon of Pandora with towering floating mountains, glowing vegetation, themed restaurants, and two attractions that offer completely different experiences.
Avatar Flight of Passage sends guests soaring through Pandora on the back of a banshee, while Na'vi River Journey provides a tranquil boat ride designed for visitors of all ages. Na'vi River Journey slowly carries guests through Pandora's illuminated rainforest, showcasing bioluminescent plants, alien creatures, and an immersive soundtrack that creates one of the park's most relaxing attractions.
The journey concludes with the Na'vi Shaman of Songs, an impressive Audio-Animatronic whose performance celebrates Pandora's natural world through music. The character remains one of Disney's most sophisticated animatronic creations and is widely considered the highlight of the attraction.
Because the ride has no minimum height requirement, it continues to be one of Pandora's most family-friendly experiences and a reliable option for younger visitors.

According to reports, Na'vi River Journey never opened during Early Theme Park Entry at 7:30 a.m. and stayed unavailable for the entirety of Disney's Animal Kingdom's operating day. Even when the park closed at 7:00 p.m., the attraction had not resumed operation.
The all-day closure prompted guests to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app before heading toward Pandora, as the attraction's operating status never changed.
When a major attraction experiences an extended shutdown, it can affect wait times across the park. With Na'vi River Journey unavailable, many visitors were expected to join the queues for Avatar Flight of Passage, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, and other high-demand attractions.
Disney has not publicly explained what caused the downtime, and there has been no announcement regarding when the attraction will reopen. Guests visiting Animal Kingdom are advised to continue checking the My Disney Experience app for the latest availability information.

The closure also arrives during a period of major change for Disney's Animal Kingdom. Construction continues on Pueblo Esperanza, the Tropical Americas-themed land replacing DinoLand U.S.A. Scheduled to open in 2027, the expansion will introduce new attractions based on Encanto and Indiana Jones as Walt Disney Imagineering reshapes the park's future.
