Long-Term Stays at Disney World Just Got Real: Apartment-Style Living Launches in 2027

Get Even Closer to the Magic

Disney World is creating something amazing that will be available to select guests in 2027, bringing the comfort of home directly inside the parks (or at least the closest you can be to the parks).

The Secret Disney Project That Brings the Magic Home

At dawn beside Bay Lake, sunlight glimmers off heavy machinery and half-built rooftops. To the average visitor passing by, it might look like just another construction zone. But for longtime Disney fans, what’s forming beyond the trees could be the most exciting resort project in years—one that might finally make living at Disney World feel real.

Disney’s latest property isn’t just another themed hotel or another addition to its ever-growing lineup of vacation clubs. It’s something more intimate—a retreat designed to capture the peace of nature, the warmth of home, and the ever-present pull of Walt Disney’s original vision.

But what exactly is taking shape—and why does it feel so different from anything else Disney has built before?

Lakeshore Lodge: Where Nature and Nostalgia Meet

Rising from the historic grounds of the former River Country water park, Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is now well into construction, with newly surfaced aerial photos hinting at its grand scale. Shared by @bioreconstruct, the images showcase an expansive pool area complete with sweeping curves that strongly suggest the return of something fans love: a lazy river.

The overall design channels Disney’s heritage of storytelling through environment. Each architectural detail evokes the American wilderness but with a polished, artful touch. Early concept art displays charming homages to Bambi and woodland life, reinforcing a message carved into the resort’s entrance signage: “The Wonders of Nature Are Endless.”

What Makes This Resort Special

When Lakeshore Lodge was first proposed in 2018 as Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge, plans were placed on hold following 2020’s global shutdown. Many assumed the concept had been shelved permanently. Instead, Disney Imagineers quietly reworked it into a more modern DVC property that would emphasize serenity over spectacle.

Now on track for a 2027 debut, the finished resort is slated to feature around 430 Disney Vacation Club villas—each one offering what might be the most personal, residential-style experience Disney has introduced to date.

Think of it as the rare middle ground between luxury hotel and lakeside neighborhood—a place where Vacation Club members and visiting guests alike can unwind in a setting that feels uniquely theirs.

The Closest You Can Get to Living at Disney

That sense of belonging is no accident. Lakeshore Lodge aims to create a setting where guests can truly settle in, not just check in. The project taps into a growing Disney trend: the transformation of its resort portfolio into immersive communities rather than simple spaces to sleep.

By building on Bay Lake—just around the corner from Fort Wilderness—Disney capitalizes on nostalgia and natural beauty at once. For fans who remember River Country’s frontier charm, this development feels like both a return to the past and a step into the future.

While Disney has yet to confirm which dining options will appear, there’s persistent speculation that a Princess and the Frog-themed restaurant, once planned for Reflections, may find new life here.

A Vision of the Future

Construction progress shows Disney’s clear investment in longer-term, story-driven hospitality. Instead of leaning into blockbuster theming, Lakeshore Lodge gestures toward something subtler—a deep breath between the thrills, a space for quiet wonder.

When it opens in 2027, it will represent not just another resort, but a homecoming of sorts. For Disney fans who have always dreamed of staying “in the story,” Lakeshore Lodge offers the closest chance yet.

This isn’t about proximity—it’s about permanence.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
