Disney World Confirms October 2026 Closures, Entire Park Goes Dark

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park is closed for refurbishment, the Walt Disney World Railroad will be unavailable for most of October 2026, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress remains deep into a major reimagining, and Slush Gusher is currently closed at Blizzard Beach.

The biggest planning consequence among the Disney World October 2026 closures is the loss of an entire water park. Disney officially lists Typhoon Lagoon as temporarily closed and is directing guests to Blizzard Beach instead. October guests therefore lose the usual choice between Disney’s two water parks.

Typhoon Lagoon Is Completely Closed in October 2026

Typhoon Lagoon’s refurbishment began September 9, after its final scheduled operating day on September 8. Disney’s official Typhoon Lagoon page currently lists the park as temporarily closed and tells guests to visit Blizzard Beach during the shutdown.

That makes this more consequential than a single Disney World ride closure. Miss Adventure Falls, Crush ’n’ Gusher, Castaway Creek, the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, dining locations and the rest of the park’s operating lineup are unavailable while the park itself is closed.

Disney has not posted a specific reopening date on the current Typhoon Lagoon park page. Guests should therefore avoid building an October itinerary around a possible return unless Disney updates its calendar.

Blizzard Beach Is the Alternative, but One Slide Is Closed

Blizzard Beach remains Disney’s available water park during the Typhoon Lagoon refurbishment, which gives guests a clear alternative. Disney’s current Blizzard Beach attraction listings show major experiences including Summit Plummet, Teamboat Springs and Toboggan Racers operating.

However, the lineup is not completely intact. Disney currently marks Slush Gusher as “Closed for Refurbishment.” That means October water-park guests are being redirected to Blizzard Beach while at least one of that park’s thrill slides is also unavailable.

Guests should recheck Disney’s operating calendar shortly before traveling because refurbishment schedules can change. Inside the Magic’s previous breakdown of the Typhoon Lagoon closure also underscored how a full water-park shutdown can require families to restructure an entire vacation day.

Magic Kingdom Loses Its Railroad for Most of October

The Walt Disney World Railroad adds another significant October closure. Disney says the attraction will temporarily close beginning September 28 for routine refurbishment and is expected to reopen in November 2026.

Inside the Magic reported a more specific scheduled return of October 30, meaning guests visiting from September 28 through October 29 should expect the railroad to be unavailable. Another Inside the Magic report highlighted the transportation impact during long Magic Kingdom days.

Even before this refurbishment, the railroad had been operating on a modified route because Frontierland Station remains unavailable amid Magic Kingdom construction. Disney’s current attraction page says the train temporarily operates between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland and is expected to return to normal operations when the Magic Kingdom expansion is complete.

So, even if the scheduled October 30 return holds, guests should not interpret that reopening as an immediate restoration of the traditional full-circle railroad experience.

Carousel of Progress Will Stay Dark Through the Month

Tomorrowland is also missing one of its longstanding attractions. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress has been temporarily unavailable since July 6, 2026, while Disney prepares a substantially reworked version of the show.

Disney now says the attraction is expected to reopen in late spring 2027. Inside the Magic reported on that updated reopening window this week, noting that the closure will span many months and that Disney is reworking the attraction rather than simply performing routine maintenance.

For October visitors, however, the immediate reality is simpler: Carousel of Progress will not be part of the Magic Kingdom attraction lineup. The closure is especially notable because Carousel of Progress is one of Disney’s most historically rooted attractions. Disney says Walt Disney originally developed the concept before it debuted as “Progressland” at the 1964–65 New York World’s Fair; it later moved to Disneyland and then Magic Kingdom in 1975. That history helps explain why the current reimagining has drawn sustained attention.

Its absence, combined with the railroad shutdown, removes two slower-paced Magic Kingdom experiences at the same time.

October Guests Should Check the Calendar Before Arrival

October is still packed with Walt Disney World fall programming. Disney’s official fall calendar lists Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on select nights through October 31 and the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival through November 21.

But the resort will not be operating with every familiar experience available. Typhoon Lagoon is fully closed, Slush Gusher is unavailable at Blizzard Beach, Carousel of Progress remains closed, and the Walt Disney World Railroad is scheduled to miss nearly the entire month.

The key distinction is that these are not all the same kind of closure. Typhoon Lagoon, Carousel of Progress and Slush Gusher are listed by Disney as refurbishment closures; the railroad has a routine refurbishment with an expected return window. None of those statuses should be treated as a permanent closure.

Disney can revise refurbishment calendars, so October travelers should check the official Walt Disney World operating calendar and attraction pages immediately before departure. The next major date to watch is October 30, when current reporting says the railroad is scheduled to return—while Typhoon Lagoon and Carousel of Progress remain unavailable.
