Disney World Expansion Plans on the Horizon

Disney Parks around the globe are entering an exciting new chapter as numerous projects and expansions are set to unfold in the coming years. For guests planning their next visit, keeping track of all the latest developments can be challenging. Here’s a rundown of what to expect at your favorite Disney destination. One of the most eagerly anticipated additions is a new short film centered on the diverse biomes of Zootopia.

This innovative experience will replace the existing Bug’s Life film under the iconic Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney announced this thrilling change during the D23 Expo, with the launch planned for 2025. At EPCOT, the popular Test Track attraction is renovating to enhance its appeal.

Drawing inspiration from the nostalgic World of Motion, the revamped ride aims to deliver an upgraded experience and is expected to reopen in 2025, as confirmed at the Expo. In a significant return, a brand new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight, will debut in the summer of 2025.

This parade will continue the legacy of Disney’s nighttime spectacles, leveraging the latest technology to weave new narratives featuring iconic characters from films like Peter Pan, Encanto, and Frozen, all guided by the enchanting Blue Fairy.

Disney will unveil two new lounges at Walt Disney World in 2025. The lounge at the Magic Kingdom will embrace the theme of Pirates of the Caribbean, while EPCOT’s lounge will celebrate Spaceship Earth. Each lounge will be strategically located near its respective attraction, creating perfect spots for guests to relax and enjoy their surroundings. At Animal Kingdom, a significant transformation is planned for the area currently known as DinoLand U.S.A.

Disney has confirmed ambitious plans for an Indiana Jones attraction to replace DINOSAUR, an Encanto-themed experience, a sizeable counter-service restaurant, and a carousel. While construction is already in progress, this expansive project is anticipated to open in phases, with a full debut expected around 2027. One of the standout announcements from the 2024 D23 Expo was the introduction of a new Monsters, Inc. Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

This area will feature the long-rumored Door Coaster, with construction set to begin within the next year. However, details about its specific location within the park are still being finalized. In Magic Kingdom, guests can look forward to two new Cars attractions coming to Frontierland, replacing Tom Sawyer Island and sections of the Rivers of America.

One of these rides will cater to thrill-seekers, while the other will be family-friendly. The timeline for the river’s closure remains uncertain, but this project is expected to require significant time to complete.

Additionally, a new Villains Land is in the works for Magic Kingdom, designed to feature two major attractions, various dining options, and unique shopping experiences. Due to the scale of this undertaking, guests should prepare for a lengthy wait before it opens. With a wealth of exciting developments on the horizon, Disney Parks are set to continue their legacy of wonder and enchantment.

With all this exciting news on the horizon, things are still being discussed and barely breaking ground. But in the meantime, folks who also have four-legged companions can check out this exclusive and massive “Disney World for dogs” dog park that has just opened its doors in Denver, Colorado.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
