Disney World and Firearms: Legal Conceal Carry Still Not Okay Inside Theme Parks

The thrill of entering Walt Disney World is unmatched—bright lights, familiar music, and the scent of freshly baked treats instantly transport guests to another world. But recent news about Florida’s “open carry” law has left some wondering: does this change affect park safety? The short answer: no. Disney’s weapons policies remain in full effect, ensuring every guest can enjoy the magic worry-free.

Earlier this month, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier declared that the open carry of firearms is legal under certain circumstances, following a ruling by the District Court of Appeals that invalidated prior bans. While the announcement made headlines, there’s a crucial caveat: private property owners, including Walt Disney World, retain the right to prohibit firearms on their premises.

For visitors, this distinction is vital. Disney has always enforced a strict no-weapons policy across all parks, resorts, water parks, and Disney Springs. Combined with thorough security measures, this ensures that millions of families can continue to experience Disney’s attractions without any safety concerns.

Disney’s Policy on Firearms and Weapons

In a statement to Florida Politics, Disney reiterated that firearms, knives, ammunition, and any other weapons are strictly prohibited on property. Guests who violate this policy may face removal and be trespassed from the resort.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina emphasized that private property owners are fully within their rights to ban firearms and enforce trespassing rules, covering not only theme parks but hotels, shopping malls, and other private businesses throughout Florida.

Disney also notes on its official website that all guests and their belongings may be subject to screening and security checks. Any unattended or prohibited items are handled according to park protocol to maintain a safe environment for all visitors.

How to Navigate Disney Safely

Arriving early is one of the simplest ways to ensure a smooth entry through security. Guests should check their bags in advance to make sure they comply with park rules, leaving prohibited items at home. The My Disney Experience app is also an invaluable tool for planning rides, checking wait times, and staying up-to-date on park notifications.

Families should also remind children and teens about Disney’s strict no-weapons policy, as enforcement applies universally. Thoughtful planning around dining, attractions, and breaks can minimize stress and maximize the magical experience.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
