Disney has pulled back the curtain on what guests will actually experience when its newest Walt Disney World resort begins welcoming visitors.
The latest update for Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge goes well beyond another construction milestone. Guests now have an opening date to circle on the calendar, along with fresh details about the rooms, Disney films featured throughout the property, dining options, and how the resort will use its Bay Lake setting.
It’s a very different position from the one this project occupied only a few years ago. Long before Lakeshore Lodge took shape, Disney had another vision for this same waterfront property — and for a time, its future looked uncertain.
From Reflections to Lakeshore Lodge
Getting to this point hasn’t been a straight path.
Disney announced plans for a new resort on the property in 2018 under the name Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge. The project later stalled during the COVID-19 pandemic, and years passed without the resort moving forward as originally planned.
New permit activity eventually offered signs that Disney wasn’t finished with the location.
Then, in 2024, Disney officially announced the development as Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, giving it a fresh identity.
The Disney Vacation Club property will occupy land along Bay Lake where Disney’s River Country water park once operated. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge sit on either side of the resort area.
Nature plays a major role in Disney’s vision. The company plans to explore its influence on Disney artists and storytelling throughout the property.
That idea becomes particularly clear when looking at where guests will actually spend their nights.
Nearly 1,000 Accommodations Are Coming
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will feature 967 accommodations when complete, offering guests several options to suit their group and travel needs.
Studios, villas, suites, and other accommodations will make up the resort, but Disney is also introducing a new option right on the edge of Bay Lake.
One- and two-bedroom Lake Houses will line the waterfront, giving guests a different experience from staying in the resort’s main accommodations. Many rooms throughout Lakeshore Lodge will overlook Bay Lake, and some will offer nighttime views of Magic Kingdom fireworks.
Disney has now attached a date to all those plans.
Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge officially opens July 1, 2027, placing its debut in the middle of next summer.
And when those first guests check in, they’ll find several familiar Disney stories waiting inside.
Disney Animation Shapes the Room Designs
Instead of giving every room the same look, Disney is drawing from multiple animated films across different accommodation categories.
- Waterfront Lake House — Brother Bear (2003): Large windows help bring the waterfront setting into the room. The bedroom includes mountain imagery complemented by blue, purple, and green lighting.
- One-bedroom villa — Bambi (1942): Disney draws on the film’s woodland setting and connection to nature for inspiration.
- Deluxe studio — Bambi (1942): The animated classic also influences the design of these smaller accommodations.
- Hidden Willow Presidential Suite — Pocahontas (1995): One of Lakeshore Lodge’s higher-end accommodations takes inspiration from the Disney film.
- Resort studio — Pocahontas (1995): The movie’s influence will extend into another room category as well.
- Duo studio — Encanto (2021): One of Disney’s newer animated stories inspires these studios.
- Three-bedroom Grand Villa — Fantasia (1940): The classic film will influence the design of one of the largest accommodations available at the resort.
The mix allows Disney to bring different stories into Lakeshore Lodge while maintaining the broader connection with nature found throughout the property.
Bay Lake Will Be Part of the Experience
The rooms aren’t the only places where Disney is putting that concept to work.
Guests will have three dining experiences at the resort. Moonglade will offer table-service dining, Bay Lake Provisions will operate as an all-day quick-service marketplace, and Paint Out Point Bar & Grill will serve guests near the pool.
Disney has also shown a lobby inspired by Pocahontas (1995).
Outside the lobby and rooms, Bay Lake itself will become part of the resort experience. Dandelion Terrace will function as a lounge overlooking the water, with Disney confirming views of Magic Kingdom fireworks across the lake.
Many guest rooms will provide fireworks views as well.
July 2027 Starts a New Chapter
A project that once faced an uncertain future now has an opening day.
Disney’s original 2018 resort plans stalled before Lakeshore Lodge emerged years later. Today, Disney has confirmed much more than a name and location.
Guests can expect 967 accommodations, waterfront Lake Houses, rooms drawing from several Disney animated films, three dining experiences, and opportunities to watch Magic Kingdom fireworks across Bay Lake.
The wait isn’t over just yet, but there’s finally a finish line.
