Walt Disney World guests finally got a taste of more comfortable Florida weather, but that break isn't going to last.
Heat, humidity, and thunderstorms are returning to Central Florida this week, creating another potential headache for families spending long days at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
By Friday, rain chances could reach 70%, while the heat index could climb as high as 103 degrees.
Disney World Weather Changes This Week
The shift begins Wednesday, September 30, as moisture returns to the area.
Rain chances sit between 20% and 50% Wednesday, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms presenting the biggest concern. Thursday brings an even greater chance of rain at 40% to 60%.
Friday could be the most difficult day.
Rain chances increase to between 50% and 70%, while afternoon temperatures reach the upper 80s to low 90s. Humidity will make it feel considerably hotter, with peak heat index values expected between 98 and 103 degrees.
Thunderstorms could also produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy downpours.
For Disney World guests, that combination can quickly change a park day.
Outdoor attractions can temporarily stop operating when lightning enters the area, potentially creating longer waits elsewhere once guests move toward indoor rides, restaurants, and shows.
Guests May Need To Adjust Their Plans
Anyone visiting through Friday may want to prioritize outdoor attractions earlier in the day rather than saving everything for the afternoon.
Guests should also prepare for the heat.
Drinking plenty of water, taking breaks indoors, and avoiding hours of uninterrupted time in direct sunlight can become especially important when the heat index approaches triple digits.
Rain gear is another smart addition to the park bag. Florida storms don't necessarily mean an entire day will be ruined, but heavy rain can arrive quickly.
Fortunately, some relief could arrive this weekend.
Saturday and Sunday currently have lower shower and thunderstorm chances as moisture shifts north and west. Temperatures will remain warm, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.
However, the break may be temporary.
A cold front moving toward Florida could bring increasing moisture and another round of scattered to numerous showers and storms early next week.
Disney World guests who recently enjoyed Central Florida's more comfortable conditions shouldn't expect that early taste of fall to stick around just yet.
