Even those who aren’t passionate fans of Star Wars can’t help but marvel at the impressive nature of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park and across the country at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which opened in 2019, is home to two major attractions in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. The two attractions draw impressive crowds each day and Rise of the Resistance continues to be one of the most popular attractions in the Disney theme parks.
However, Galaxy’s Edge has much more to offer than just the two rides. The Star Wars-themed land is home to Savi’s Workshop, where you can build your own lightsaber, Droid Depot, and Oga’s Cantina.
One of the standout features of the Star Wars land since May of 2022 was the presence of Fennec Shand, the sharpshooting assassin from The Book of Boba Fett. However, as of December 31, fans bid farewell to this unique character as she took her final steps through the Black Spire Outpost in Galaxy’s Edge.
Fennec Shand’s inclusion in Galaxy’s Edge was a noteworthy departure from the usual theme park character interactions. Unlike most characters in the land who adhere to preprogrammed responses, Shand was portrayed by talented actresses who brought a level of spontaneity and realism to her character.
This unconventional approach allowed visitors to engage in unscripted conversations with Shand, creating the illusion of genuine interactions with a character from the Star Wars universe. Of course, it should be noted that this isn’t the case with all the characters in the land.
Peter Sciretta was the first to report the news.
Sounds like Fennec Shand has taken a shuttle off Batuu and will no longer be seen patrolling Black Spire Outpost.
While I was not the biggest fan of Book of Boba Fett, it was always great interacting with Shand in Galaxy’s Edge. So many of the characters in the land are masked… pic.twitter.com/4d6n5K8RxE

The introduction of Fennec Shand into Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland aligned perfectly with the debut of The Book of Boba Fett, a Disney+ series that delved into the adventures of the iconic bounty hunter and his formidable partner-in-crime, Shand. Her presence in the land bridged the gap between the on-screen narrative and the immersive Galaxy’s Edge land. Guests could engage with her, ask questions, and capture memorable moments alongside the character.
At this time, Disney has not announced if there will be a replacement character coming in the place of Shand.
If you’re visiting Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park in the coming weeks, we recommend stopping by Toontown and checking out Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. In addition, don’t forget to take a spin on some of the classic attractions like Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jungle Cruise. Avengers Campus is hugely popular at Disney California Adventure, but Pixar Pier and Radiator Springs are “can’t miss” experiences.
